Ever since selling my 2005 FJR in 2010 I've regretted it.  And so has my wife.  I sold it at the time for financial reasons but the issue at the time has since been dealt with.  My wife missed the wind protection & I missed the power.

In the spring of 2012, back on my financial feet, I bought a new Super Tenere.  I was even able to pay cash!  But, my financial woes are a whole other post.  We like the S-10.  When we pull our travel trailer it is easy to load in the back of our pickup to be our wheels once the trailer is set up.  But, we still missed the FJR.

A month ago, I while getting the tires replaced on the S-10 I spotted a real clean 2008 FJR on the dealers floor.  I was real hot on it until discovering it was an AE.  Yuk.  I took it for a test ride regardless.  I really liked it.  So to make the story a bit shorter, after a month of negotiation it's now in my garage.  I couldn't be more excited.  Too bad the snow hit after I brought it home.

Congrats on reentering the FJR-fold.   Bigok

For the record, I didn't think I'd like the AE either but the deal I was offered was SO good, I bought it sans test ride.  I never regretted it and actually love it for many situations.  If I ever had to reduce the herd to a single bike..she's the one I'd keep.

Your garage looks great with the two Yammis.  But you know, the logo has 3 tuning forks, so...

Cheers,

Joe

Nope.  I bought an AE.  You still have to shift it.  Nice thing, the bike does the clutching for you.

Ever since buying the Super Tenere she's missed the wind protection & power of the FJR we had previously owned.  Although she's always riding pillion she could detect the difference in passing between the two.  I have installed floorboards & a backrest on the Super Tenere to make it more comfortable for her.

Now that we have the FJR, we'll see if reality is as good as past memories.  Seven years ago, when we first met, she really enjoyed rides on the FJR.  Was it the dating/honeymoon period or was it the bike?

Once the weather cooperates & we log some miles on the FJR I'll return & report.

Saddletramp,
I highly recommend NOT riding a Gen III. Especially with the wife. I had an 06 and it was a great bike.  Got rid of it and got a 1050 Tiger, then an R1200GS which is a long and complicated story, but now I have a 2014 A model.  The refinements to the Gen III take all those great features I had on the 06 and just make it soooo much nicer on long trips.

I actually rode a 2014 non-ES.  I didn't have my wife with me at the time.  I was very impressed!  At the time, it seemed like a whole new bike compared to my 2005 ( which I logged 30,000 + miles on).

The problem is...I pay cash for my purchases & writing nearly a $20,000 check (sales tax etc)  for a 2014 made me cringe.

Since the 2008 I purchased was a second bike. ( I have a 2012 Super Tenere)  $8,000 out the door was much easier to swallow.

For those that can justify the price...they've bought one great motorcycle!

Cheers!   Beerchug
