Will we have one?
Would there be any interest in a National in the upper midwest, specifically the driftless area in SW Wisconsin?

SD has been the the traditional location in the
rotation.
While Wisconsin may certainly be a good location
I feel the North West contingent deserves
their shot at the National.
Anybody else have an opinion?

Yeah, I have an opinion. Since the NW is closer to me than Wisconsin, I say the NW.

I love riding places I've never been.
That'd be the North Wet.
Of course, Wisconsin is only about 1/2 way for me...
Either way, thanx for starting the discussion.

The key to having a successful National is the following:

1) Someone determines a location based on suggestions of others
2) That person makes an executive decision on lodging and food and riding opportunities
3) 70% of the people will bitch and complain about the location and/or the lodging/food/road options
4) That person will post a poll to determine dates. This will elicit complaints from those who don't like the date options
5) 60% of the people will bitch and complain about the date chosen
6) 30% of the people who voted will actually show up

I just locked up 90% of my 2015 vacation plans on a BWCA canoe trip, hunting/fishing trips, and various other family obligations. For me, planning needs to be much further in advance.  I'm in MN, so I'm within easy range of the locations that have been floated do far, but the calendar is already basically booked up into 2016.  Sad

+1

For me, a date needs to be agreed upon much further in advance.

While we're on the subject, what about changing the date to the weekend before/after/on Father's Day.

I'll bet we would have had twice as many people - probably more - in North Carolina last year on the weekend.

Wisconsin could be doable for us, depending on job status. Ladyninja's (Mrs. 547) family is in MN so if we make it, we could combine visits.

La Crosse Wisconsin area is great riding.

Even if it is too late to put together a Midwest National Meet in this area, or another place nearby, I would be interested in some kind of informal ride-in / rally of sorts.

I've been to the Wildcat Mountain Rally in nearby Westby WI, that's on Labor Day Weekend a couple of times. Good event, and its routes are in good riding areas.

I'm not willing to try to organize something from 750 miles away. Next year at Eureka Springs if no one steps up, I will consider it. I'm only a couple hours away from there.

I'm in for Eureka Springs again next year.

But, back to the present: 'Sconsin? Seriously?
When I think of epic motorcycle destinations
Wisconsin isn't exact top of mind.
I'm either going to be mildly disappointed or in
for the biggest surprise of my life.
Ok, so convince me.

Why not? I did it (a couple of times, even). The Internet is a great tool and there's usually "someone" who lives with visitation distance to check things out.

But yeah, there's always Eureka Springs, 2016...

In the past few years I’ve passed through Wisconsin a couple of times.
I liked it and wouldn’t mind a chance to spend more time, and it’s just a day’s ride from Toronto.
If this happens I’ll be there.

I hope something happens. I'm going straight from the COG National (Cortez CO.) to the MSTA National (Springdale AR.) in June and I was hoping that S-T.N would come up with a National Rally in July or August. Either Wisconsin or S.D are fine with me, as I just want to go somewhere up north this summer to get out of the Texas heat. (ever consider Canada for a National?) I went with a local group last year in late August/early September to S.D. and had a great time there. Great roads, nice weather, and wonderful scenery, I thought it was perfect. The week after we left for home it snowed there. EEK!

This is my second post here so what do I have to lose? I can pick a hotel and dates and location that suits me, but then I'd most likely be the only one that shows up and I've never planned anything like this before so...no, me planning the whole thing is not likely to happen. I'll be happy to assist anyone that wants to do it in July or August.
Yeah, I know that S-T.N National has traditionally done it in June, but that doesn't work for me....and...and...it's kind of late for planning that now, isn't it?
Just a suggestion from a nube with no ST.N experience. I just thought that July or August would be better than nothing (and it seemed like nothing is where it was headed).

So I'll start something (just to have it ignored or shot down in flames  Sad )
When: Arrive Monday afternoon/evening July 27th.
 S-T.N 2015 National Rally 'n' Ride Tuesday through Thursday (28th -30th).
 Depart Friday July 31st.
Where? Let's start with Spearfish S.D. (and see if we end up in Wisconsin)
Lodging?....at the...ah...ahhh... at the Days Inn?

Hmmph! I hate it when someone good, tells everyone they are good, when everyone already knows they're good. Do I get any brownie points for the compliments?

Brownie points? No. But if I decide to plan a National, you'll be part of the Committee...  Cool

I'm a 1/2 day's ride from either location, so if something happens - I'll try to squeeze it into my calendar.   Thumbsup

Is this virtually a dead site? How many people really use this anymore? I'd just like to know if I'm
wasting my time posting here or if there might be a better forum for sport tourers.

Sigh. Umm....no.
If the National is to be the West/Northwest.
Even Wisconsin is a bit of a stretch.

Late to the party, but Wisconsin rocks.  Some of the best riding anywhere, plus we could track down Peter Egan and bug him for autographs.  Close enough to home that I'd be there.  Unless I'm in Eureka Springs again.....

Have we set a firm date yet? If it can wait until July or August, I can put something together.  I had plans for the regular June time frame, but can change those if necessary.  Let me know.

There's a date poll somewhere around here. It expires April 11th, (IIRC) - that's when a date will be chosen.

Those who love Wisconsin should start considering locations...

Did the poll thing. June or August for me, but really open to anything.

I have a trip scheduled for the Black Hills, then maybe beyond, that encompasses days before the first weekend in June, and some days after it.

WI is all right with me.  Any of those good riding areas south of I90 works for me.

If this National thing doesn't gel, I am open to an ad hoc rally of some sort as well.

Thanks to all for trying to put this together. I know it's like trying to herd cats.
