Maintenance Costs

I'm anal with records and cost.  My Tiger since new has come me $0.323 per mile since new, excluding gas.  This does include the cost of the motorcycle, oil, tires, farkles, gear, other maintenance cost, etc.

My biggest expenses on any bike trip are hotels, food, and booze. Most often in that order.
Yet I never figure out a 'cost per dump'.
The bike's the cheapest park of the equation.

I have it all in a spreadsheet, every last expense to include insurance, registration renewals, every farkle, every bit of gear to wear, tires, etc.  Bike was bought new in 2010.  Mine comes in at 68.6 cents per mile so far.  Daughters Honda Civic, bought used, comes in just over 30 cents a mile.

What seemed like such a simple request has turned

It's no wonder statistics are only worthwhile to

That's STN. Kinda like when someone asks which of "these two bikes" is the best deal and the responses name a dozen bikes not mentioned.

Oil/filters, brakes, forks, valves, plugs, final drive oil and coolant divided by 69,982 miles makes about 3 cents per mile for my FJR1300 that I sold.

Haven't done the current ZX14 yet but I would think similar. Maybe less!

Ok - Gas and Maintenance (including tires) only

$0.19 per mile lifetime on my Wee
$0.26 per mile for the first 5000 miles on my Connie

A lot of that cost is tires.  I don't seem to get very good gas mileage for that matter either.   PR3 on the Wee; I considered wearing it out commuting because there was a lot of good tread left on it, but the Spring Meet was coming up.  

We could turn this into a tire & oil thread you know

Old thread, but what the hell, I'll bump it.

If I don't count farkles, my CBR500R is only $0.03/mile. Hondas don't need much or expensive maintenance.

An earlier comment reminded me of the tire cost part of the equation. A set of tires for my little CBR will probably be $250. Another $50 to mount and balance them using a local motorcycle mechanic. I'll probably get 10k out of a rear and 15k or until dry rot out of a front.  Let's call it $400 / 2 years or $200 / year. I used to think that would counter the cost of car tires and gas so that the bike is not more economical to ride. The car only needs tires every 60k or so, but they are $800 / set, + mounting and balancing. It works out about the same!

My wife is MUCH higher maintenance.    

Funny story, I brought my wife with me to pick-up new tires & parts for my bike (which I have named Natasha). the bill was just short of $500 bucks. My lovely wife commented "when was the last time you spend 500 bucks on me"? My quick witted reply was "well when you get as much fun to ride as Natasha".......

Who the heck thinks buying starters every 50k miles has never owned a Honda.  I don't any more but I went through 3 Wings with the MINIMUM having 80k when I sold it (at 1983 sold in 1999). NONE ever needed a starter.
