We only get the 4th off.  But most people take vacation around that time, so it will be pretty lean here.

I'm not taking any vacation around the 4th.  Trying to go anywhere is just a massive PITA.  Roads clogged with RVs the entire week. Thumbsdown

Just the 4th this year.  IIRC if it is on a Tues or Thurs, we get the long weekend.

The tough part is Jan 1 to Memorial Day -- no holidays. Angry3

My job has closed operations for 2 weeks starting today. This isn't good because I don't get paid for the time off unless I use my vacation time (which I want to save for the two weeks off during Christmas). Next week I am going to Las Vegas for 4 nights (including the 4th). Maybe I can win some money to make up for the two weeks without pay.

If you have employees, I would look more at the # of holidays you offer total.  2 large employers I worked for offer(ed) 7 holidays annually + 4 day "winter shutdown."  The one small company I worked for offered 8 holidays (New Year's, MLK, Memorial Day, 4th, Labor Day, two days at Thanksgiving, Christmas Day).

If you have a really small company, I'd ask if they want a larger Christmas bonus or an extra day off and put it to a simple vote.

Actually we only have the one day off next week scheduled.  I do have two employees out on vacation (of 6) gone the second half of the week.  We probally will be slow so I was thinking of just closing up the 5th & 6th as well.  Which sparked my curiosity about what other companies are doing.

They're using "potential" customer shutdowns as an excuse to strongly encourage us to take the 5th & 6th off as vacation time.  Just like the last several years.    Rolleyes   At least they haven't strongly encouraged us to take the whole week off (like last year), or strongly encouraged us to take the following week off as well (like 2 years ago).

I work in construction. I never seen more than 6 days holiday off per year at any company I worked for. The 4th is one. The only exception is the day after Thanksgiving, most don't but some do.
