Because of the original thought was this: if the Meet was officially in the middle of the week, that would give the riders Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to get there, Wednesday to hang out, and then Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to get home. This is important for a National Meet, as it would in theory allow riders from national locations to attend with only a week off.

I attended a National Meet in West Virginia while I was living in Seattle. Not exactly doable over a weekend... Shrug

I will not be attending.  Date was announced too late for me to plan accordingly.

Last year, the few who attended - everyone of us - said a weekend date would have been better for us.

No one showed up who said a mid-week date made it possible for them.

Plus, there were several people who did not attend who would have been there if it had been in a weekend.

A mid-week date works for workers who must schedule a full week off at a time.  There aren't many of us who have those types of jobs anymore.  Many of us have jobs where our bosses or businesses make it easier to schedule 2 or 3 days off at the end of one week and 2 or 3 days off at the beginning of the next.  Sure, there is a disadvantage in this that your time off loses 2 days from the loss of 2 adjoining weekends.  Balancing that are many people who no longer have traditional 5 day work weeks.

Time for a change.  Move it to a weekend.  Make it a Friday night, so folks have a long weekend to slab it home.  Anyone going cross-country is going to want to take more time anyway.  Attendance will improve.

I rest my case.

I think many are missing the point.
I can make a three or four day "weekend" almost
any time I want. In fact, I'm currently in Staunton,
VA for four days with about 20 like-minded folks
for a so-called "Regional".
However, I enjoy spending a week on the road to
ride to an event or selected destination, hence
the interest in a "National" that is scheduled in
advance allowing ample time for planning.
I'm already planning on returning to Eureka
Springs for the National next year, assuming it
happens, probably even if it doesn't.
So I don't understand the "it would be better on
a weekend" sentiment.
Another group I ride with had 500 people show
up for a mid-week National last year and had
300 people show up mid -week this year.
They expect a similar turnout for next year.
It's doable if you want to go.

I earn time-off from work. It's not up to my boss,
job or company how, when or where I use it.
I just prefer not to "blow it" on weekend Regional
meets that are more than a long days ride away.
There are always plenty available closer.

Not trying to moan, just wish I could make it. Hard to go anywhere during the week. Really enjoy the regional meetups (on the few occasions I can make it) and would love to make a national, is all.

Carry on.

I don't know for sure if it is the group jimmy is referring to, but the Concours Owner's Group had 500+ at their 2014 National in
Johnson City TN (totally filled the hotel); and 300+ at the 2015 COG National in Cortez CO. MSTA had 300+ at Springdale AR this year.
Lodging: At all three great events I mentioned there was a large central hotel and some nearby ones for overflow. The COG events also both had a campground
in the area.

Most Nationals are held mid week for the reasons mentioned further up the thread. Those that need time off from work only need take a week off. If it was
on the weekend and you had to cross the country then it would be almost two weeks. It's only logical, regional events on weekends, Nationals mid week.

Or I'm thinking it could have been the FJR group.  They have similar draws.

They are not like us, nor should we do something just because they do it.

Thing I always liked about STN is that it is different from those groups.

That sets us apart.  It may also limit our appeal.  So be it.

Maybe that means trying something different.

Believe me, if it doesn't suit the membership you'll hear about it.

Oh, like maybe just ditching the Nationals altogether and just having Regionals? Well, if only 3-4 people show up at this year's National, that's just what might happen. Still, there was enough interest a couple of months ago (with a mid-week date - that's never been in question for a National) for Dr Mikey to go ahead and put something together.

Believe me, if it doesn't suit the membership you'll hear about it.

No Eureka Springs next year?  That would really be a shame, because I for sure would like to make that ride; regardless whether it's on the weekend or mid-week. Only constraint is if date doesn't fit my personal travel plans.

Unfortunately I will be unable to attend.  Seems such a shame with the meet right here in WI but I am booked on shoots every day that week.  Kudos to Dr. Mikey for putting in the work.

I was thinking one night either Friday, Saturday or Sunday, with a ride back the next day... not sure I can swing it during the week...

But all of us Chicago area riders should talk. Prefer to ride with one or two of you guys as opposed to solo.

- Dan

If I do it's going to be short and sweet.  Ride to from Chicago on the 8th in time for dinner and whatnot.  Ride back the next day.

I'm in the Chicago area and would also like to do a Tuesday-Wednesday roundtrip.  A couple guys riding out there together could work well.

You guys still in?

Yep, but only if weather is decent.  Not sure what time I would take off Tuesday morning, get back in town kinda of late Monday.  Hopefully around 8ish.  No route planned at this point.

Agreed about the weather.  If it's bad, may have to make adjustments.

Right now Tuesday looks kind of nasty.  But Wed and Thurs look perfect.

If that persists, I may change my Tue-Wed roundtrip to Wed-Thur.

Will keep checking the weather, and this thread, for updates.  Thumbsup

I can get a long weekend on either side of this one, and it's practically in my backyard, but vacation mid week is pretty much impossible.
