I tried being reasonable, I didn't like it!

Has anyone got any experience with ultrasonic carburetor cleaning?  I am helping a friend resurrect a pair of older Ducati 906 Pasos that have both been sitting for  a few years.  So far we have one running although it bogs down at higher revs.  The other is still being uncooperative.  I think the carbs need to come off both bikes.  I was told by a friend of mine who used to own a Honda CBX (think 6 carburetors) that ultrasonic cleaning was the way to go.  What say you experts??

B-12 Chemtool comes in a "bucket" you can soak parts in.  Not sure how big it is.

The gallon can comes with the strainer bucket and holds one carb with the bowl off.  The stuff works, but needs to be washed off with soap and water, then all passages blown dry with compressed air.

Never done it, but as they say, google is your friend.  Your post made me curious so I searched it.   Try this link:

Price an ultrasonic cleaner for a bank of carbs.  It àint cheap.  They work, but the cheaper and just as effective alternative was pointed out first.

Seriously?

If true, this is something that should go in an FAQ/Tech Tips section.

Yes pinesol works great for degreasing and cleaning parts and carbs.  You can even go stronger than 50/50 and it will do a great job just let it soak for 24 to 48 hours.

Agreed and agreed; I use this often and have been for decades. it works, it's proven and it's readily available at most auto parts stores under various branding and labeling.

Fair point, and I generally hate the "I do it this way" responses that don't answer the question. Even though I just did the same thing.  Lol Lol Lol

But in this case, having it done by someone who already has a sizable enough rig makes much more sense than buying the equipment for what will be a one-off. And, frankly, other methods really do a fine job, too.  Thumbsup

Hey, since this has turned into a thread about
cleaners and degreasers, an acquaintance of
mine ( Jim Meadows, known to many across
several forums ) recently purchased a used
DR650 and cleaned it to nearly factory clean
using Shout stain remover.
Oil residue, brake dust, etc.  -  GONE!
Makes my efforts with Purple Power seem
weak at best.

You can get a ultrasonic cleaner at Harbor Freight. I think I paid around $40. It even heats. I use it everyday for bicycle parts and it will clean pretty much anything. The solvent we use (as to not damage anything) is Simple Green. If it were me, I would try the B-12 in it without at heat first. Blow out all the orifices.
