My KTM 990SMT

I have done over 40,000km over the last 20 months on my KTM 990SMT. I live in Sydney and have done the long way round to Adelaide via Philip Island twice and Sunshine Coast and Brisbane via Warwick three times. I have to say after not riding for 35 years it has been and continues to be the best fun I have ever had!!!

Congrats on owning what is probably the most fun you can have sport touring.

I had one and gave up on it becuase of some problems caused by my own foolishness screwing with an aftermarket airbox.  Miss it everyday.

Yea I love it.... all I have done to mod it, are the spot lights, LED Headlight and I have gone up 1 tooth on the rear sprocket... lowers the ratio by about 5%... great around town and pulling out of corners... only loose about 10kmh top speed but who runs at top speed that often!

You run Angel GTs?  Never heard of them being long mileage tires.  What do you get out of them?

I did the same sprocket change for my wife and I, it's perfect. 
The lights look very nice.

I've run them on my BMW K1600GT, my Ducati ST4s ABS and on my Triumph Sprint GT. I've gotten at least 5500ish miles on a rear, depending on how my riding style is.

It is to my understanding that the Pirelli Angel GT was specifically designed for long distance.

5,500 is not a high mileage result.  PR2s or 3s give me over 8,000 on my Hayabusa.  Haven't seen a reason to try the 4s for the price difference but I'll stick with Michelins.

Pirelli Angel GT's are superb tires. Especially the front, may not stay round quite as long but much better feel.  A good match for the SMT

I had PR4s on my ST4s & only got 3500ish on the rear. I've had Metzler Z8s that maybe got me 6000 miles on my 1600GT.

8000 miles on a Busa, rear? That's impressive. Accelerate hard out of corners or launch quick from dead stops or ride 2-up with 3 panniers loaded to capacity plus other bags and get back to me on your mileage!

Do you like the Angel GT's or Metzlers better?  I've always been a fan of Metzlers for feel and wear but just picked up a FJR with new Angels on.

Personally, I like the Angel GT over everything. The thing that I don't like about the Metzlers, is when they go, they go. Pretty much w/o warning.

Coming from a sport bike & road racing background before I started any long distance touring, anything over 3000-3500 miles on a rear seems like a good deal to me. I've always been partial to Pirelli for feel and grip. It's like they're ready to go right out of the box! No scrub in period! Lol!

Again, that's just my opinion. YMMV!
