Still no pictures of the bags. I'm pretty sure we're all familiar with the Duke. It's frustrating that there is no information on the bags.

The bags on the prototype I saw were really generic. Actually, they looked a lot like the Multistrada bags.
Then again, it was a prototype, so they might actually have
been
Multistrada bags!

This should be insanely sweet. I personally don't care how big the bags are. Anything will be big enough for my light purposes. 180 hp, upright seating, and KTM's electronics package? Good thing it costs an insane amount of money so I won't consider it

I get that people aren't looking for big bags on this. But I am, if not standard at least aftermarket. I still tent camp when headed for multi-day races with camping at the track. I'm old, that means I'm not sleeping in a bivy and sitting on the ground anymore. I also commute, and sometimes I have to store my gear on the bike. All these things mean volume. My fall back quite frankly is a newer FJR, but I'd really like to lose about 200 lbs and there's never anything wrong with more horsepower.

I am curious as to the larger tank as I have everything else set up to my liking. I wonder if that bigger tank would fit mine?

The bags don't look too bad. I'm now torn over the R (for a second bike) or the GT for just one as my next purchase.

I still hate the "Spy vs Spy" look of the front end.

Just read a review on this bike. That's dang funny ! And clearly indicates I spent way too much time with Alfred E. Newman.

When I was asked to focus group this bike, I made my feelings on the bodywork clear. The prototype had a really killer paint job, which I told them really needs to make it into production, but they didn't listen.
In our focus group of six riders, I was the only one who said that he might buy this bike. All the others said they'd get the big ADV bike or the normal SD-R instead.

The bike just reeks of "Beast" but that ultra angular styling leaves me a bit cold. I have always been a form over function type and the perma grin these kind of machines must leave on your face would likely going a long way to ignoring the Concorde like beak.

I'd totally buy this one -- depending on the practicality of the bags -- over the SuperAdventure. Be very interested to see one on person, though probably not in a place to replace the Mutley next year.

I had a friend that was racing the WERA Superbike series (and doing well) but quit when he realized that he could buy himself a new Mercedes every year with what he was spending racing.

I quit racing and am still broke. I wish I knew where I was finding all that money back then. My wife's Amazon account needs to be disabled...
Local dealer got a SDRGT in a couple weeks ago. Sitting on it felt very similar to my old VFR 800, cramped. I think the SMT was the best road going touring bike KTM ever made. These bikes are too fast and/or big. The 1190 Adventure still remains at the top of my wish list, all things considered.

Huh. They're in the US now? How tall are you?
(I've STARTED racing, so looking at a new bike can't be a good idea...)

This is a demo, maybe the for sale bikes aren't available yet?
I'm 6'. Probably need to demo it to get a good feel but I'm loving the upright "adventure" tourer ergos now.

GP motorcycles in San Diego mentioned that, but sounded super-dubious. I guess it was more real than the sales person thought.
Cramped for a 6 footer bodes ill for me, though. I've been on an MTS for a while, and it's a great bike for the taller chap; was hoping the 1290GT would be an option.

Super Duke GT Test Ride
«
Reply #17 on:

I took one for a 1 hour test ride this morning.
First impression is that you're seated high just like on a dirt bike as you reach out to what seems to be motocross handlebars. Riding position is very upright just like a dirt bike. I'm not sure how comfortable that would be on an all day ride. The riding position worked well in the twistys as it allowed you to use full leverage.
The suspension in ROAD Mode was a tad firm but, worked brilliantly when encountering road ireggularities. I didn't switch it to SPORT Mode. The seat felt hard at first but, I didn't even notice it for the remainder of the 1 hour. Windshield provided decent wind protection although, I imagine it's not too good for rain riding.
The motor supposedly has 170 ponies but, it seemed to be in a rather mild state of tune. Good enough for sport touring with lots of torque but, when I heard 170 hp, my mind imagined a real brute of a motor. I had a few fuel snatches when applying throttle at low RPM a few times but, it was mostly unobtrusive. I was expecting a Ducati-like soundtrack but, it seemed a bit more subdued. Maybe an aftermarket pipe would fix that.
I'm not a fan of the origami bodywork.

Was it in "rain" mode? I've always heard it has tremendous low end power!!!
