I'm in.  It cost me $10 more a night than the reserved rate but my reservation is confirmed.  There are more rooms.  So now I'll put together my route back and forth and the day in between.  Looking forward to the ride.  I'm looking at some nice sweepers with some twisties mixed in, ahhh!  Any prize for the one coming the farthest away?

32 south, 33 east into VA, 42 south, 250 west, 28 north, Jordan Run Rd, 42 north, 93 east back to Davis. Great loop (~250 miles). Easily extended if desired as there are great roads in every direction...

EDIT #1: 309 miles if you skip 93 and continue north 50, then 50 west to 72 south into Parsons, then 219 north to Thomas and 32 south back to Canaan.

EDIT #2: And you can super-size EDIT #1 to 381 miles by taking 678 (cool country road) south off 250 in McDowell down to 39, then 39 west (twisties!), then 600 (cool country road) and 84 north to jct 250 in Monterey. Continue west on 250 (twisties!).

Personally, if I was doing a street loop, EDIT #2 would be a very serious contender for my Saturday.

Thanks Garry.  I put together a nice asphalt route based on your directions and some deviations.  Looking forward to riding it.  Anyone want to join in let me know.

I'm looking for The Old Guy's Off-Road Route.  Something that doesn't require a bash plate or painkillers.

Getting excited and close to final plans folks.  I've got a pavement route in the GPS if anyone is interested on having a copy for Saturday. I't is  based on Garry's suggestions for the area with my adjustments.

The site won't let me upload the route.  The GPX file is just a bit to large and the site doesn't accept GDB files.  PM or email me if you want a copy of Saturday's route.

Sweet!  Between those committed here and the others committed from sport touring (dot) org, this is shaping up to have a good turnout.

If anyone would like a GPX file of the fire-road route, IM me your email address and I'll send it your way.

My plan in leading this ride is to have a quick pre-ride meeting basically saying, "I'll  be riding at a pace which is needed in order to get the in the miles planned.  If you feel uncomfortable with the pace on gravel, there will be plenty of bail out points.  We're saving the two more technical sections (bash plates HIGHLY recommended) for the end.  That way, if you're comfortable with the dirt road sections but don't want to take on deep ruts, holes, big rocks, and few moderate water crossings, you can bail out before these last two sections."

Feels like a Friday!  Banana Chili Banana
Iím off tomorrow and the next day and am looking forward to getting gone. Iím meeting Slides in Ellicottville, NY at noon.
Looking at the forecast maps: weather is better east tomorrow and west on Friday.
Trick is to find the perfect spot where the system rolls through overnight.

My plan is to have a late start on Friday morning (perhaps as late as noon) and ride down behind the rain. Friday afternoon looks to be dry if you're coming from the north or west. Saturday looks to be a crap shoot on dodging thunderstorms.
