What the heck! FJR vs Harley

This afternoon I went "down the hill" to the LA area to visit my life long best friend. On the way back an accident caused a ten mile bumper to bumper situation up the Cajon Pass. I split lanes to the front where everyone was stopped. A cop was sweeping up the mess and one was holding us all to a stop. A Harley guy pulls up behind me and the one cop points at me and motions to go. So I whip the FJR1300 up smartly to about 80 MPH or so. The Harley guy whips around me and is leading at a couple of MPH faster?? Up the hill!! He has a Sportster(??) with ape hangers almost to his shoulders and a two into one performance pipe. It doesn't sound like usual. He's got a half helmet and a sleeveless denim thing over his leather jacket. I couldn't get the club name but the top said Los Angeles. So he hits it going up the hill and I pull up behind him. I tuck down to get out of the wind but he is in the wind blast. I look down and we're going 130 MPH!!!!!!! Really!!!!!!!!! I've got him covered but I'm thinking he shouldn't even be in the game now. This guy has big dollars in that motor. He slows down with a big smile on his face and gives me the thumbs up. He motions to go again and DOWN shifts at 85MPH!!! Of course, I hand him his lunch but I let off and he pulls up with another big smile. I would never believe a Harley VTwin could do that. Except the VRod.
He got off several miles down at the first off ramp and if I didn't have to get home I would have followed him to see what he did to that thing.

That is unusual for sure. He must have put a lot of $$ into that thing and had to be out of motor at 130. In the end though, despite the extra money all he has is a very fast...Harley.

Yeah, I've heard of the stories about fast Harleys but I've just never seen one. I was very impressed. By the way, this guy was way over 200lbs!!

Doesn't take as much as you'd think to get a 1200 to get down the road just fine.

Buddy of mine has an Ultra. He's got beau-coup bucks into that engine (20K+). He's a big guy. Probably in 350 range. It'll lift the front end just fine with him on it and he loves surprising sport-bike guys.
The combination of the weight and long wheelbase of the HD lets him get on it hard from the start.

Plus the suspension upgrade? Or did you include that in this thought?

Heh. Best horsepower to weight ratio in the Harley line up plus whatever else you do to it.

Invested the equivalent of a Beemer?
Well I suppose at 350 lb it's better to choose torque...

Easy with Buell parts. The stock 1203cc is 103hp. My X1 will pull an indicated 140mph, and I think my Ulysses isn't too far behind. Mind you the stock XR1200 is supposed to have a top speed a bit over 120mph, so with a bit of tweaking 130 should be doable.

I remember when I thought 130 was fast.
Now I do that riding two-up. Pulling a trailer.

Were you speeding? Did you just incriminate yourself on the internet? I think John and Ponch are gonna be knocking on your door tonight. You might even be lucky and be in the CHIPS movie that comes out next week.
