Here's a picture of Steve on Hwy 149 as he followed me back home to Albuquerque last week, 7/12/19. He is doing much, much better. His leg bothers him a bit but it sure is better than trying to ride one legged.
Glad he is doing better.

He came from hitting the deer, almost losing the foot and selling all his bikes to riding again.
That is quite the turn-around.
I decided to hang it up in '09 after I crashed and broke my leg in 3 places, but could only stay away a year or two.
Glad he's OK. I hope the goddamn deer didn't make it.

The first time I ever crashed I thought that's the end of that experiment. But I decided to not quit a loser and figure out what happened and I learned from it.
As for Steve, I hoped after his healing was over he would have a change of heart. Which he did, thank goodness. And as for the deer? He got what he deserved, as he was crawling away on his front legs because his back end got smashed by Steve's Triumph Rocket 3, a passerby put the deer out of his misery.

Riding an FJR can lift anyone's spirits. Great news about Steve and say hi to him for me, okay?
I still have my 2014 FJR and getting ready for a weeks ride with 3 guys I got into motorcycling back in the mid 60s. Lots of great memories to share with this group.

I'm happy for Steve!
Thanks.
Last Friday I went to Creede, CO to meet Steve for lunch. We then went South to Chama, NM and tent camped for the night. He followed me back home to Rio Rancho, NM and just left this morning, Tuesday, to go back to the Gunnison, CO area. The picture is of his 2002 Honda Goldwing and my 2012 FJR1300.

I have to update everyone on my best riding buddy, Steve. He owns TEN motorcycles now. Three months ago he sold out and moved from the Gunnison, CO area here! He bought five acres on South 14 and living in a toyhauler as he prepares to build.
HE JUST BOUGHT HIS TENTH BIKE! a 2017 KTM SUPER DUKE GT!! Wanna guess where it came from?

What happened ?
As reported elsewhere here, me and the VTwin thing just wasn't working too well. When I mentioned to Steve that it really bugged me he said SOLD! I tried to talk him out of it, really! He had nine bikes!
He needs to get his living situation handled before he starts spending fun money. In my opinion. But, he said he has his financial situation all planned out and it wasn't a problem. I told him, as he already knew, that I always give others good deals when I sell something but no way was I going to take a loss here. So we figured out what I needed and he pealed off a check!!

V Twins are a different riding style, motor wise, to an in-line 4. That's for sure. I kind of like having both in the garage, just for the variety.
I do agree that big V-twins (in my case a Griso 8V) seem to not want to go slow. A big boxer is also a totally different animal from either, in my opinion.

In my mind -- twins stop making sense at around 800cc... Bigger than that and triples and I4s have enough torque and the potential for much higher horsepower. That's not to say a 1000cc v-twin isn't FUN ... the torque and compression braking and wonderful mid-range are addictive but they miss out pure performance wise (top) and low speed putting around -- even Aprilia had to concede the point and go V4....
for smaller displacements -- i think the mid-range ooomph of a twin is more practical than the rev-it-to-the-moon to get power behavior of I4s...
I keep waiting for suzuki to make a sv800...
but it looks like triumph beat them to the punch with the 660 triple...
