I'll be looking at a Sprint GT this weekend. 2011 model, silver. Mileage is 52,000 km, so it at least sounds like it was not abused too badly. Any gotchas to look out for with this bike?

I'm not at home right now, but I think the current issue of either Bike or Ride (both UK mags) has a buyer's guide for used Sprint GTs.

That looks pretty much like the bike I am considering. The dealer is selling for 6898.00 CAD, which is 5255.00 USD. It has 32,870 miles on it. Previous owner had apparently brought it in for a full service, and when she came back to pick it up fell for a Moto Guzzi, and traded it in. Dealer is giving me 3000 CAD for my 2010 Suzuki GSX 1250 as a trade in.
I have spoken with a friend of mine who is an experienced M/C mechanic and he said that the Triumph Sprint is a pretty reliable, easy to work on bike.
So, I have now decided to pull the pin and take a few hours off work tomorrow to close the deal and get me a new ride

How many kms are on your 1250? FWIW I sold an '09 with ~20000km this spring for $6000 (in Ontario). It did have a full set of luggage on it but $3k seems like a pretty low price for the Suzi.
edit: Oh, and I bet you're going to love the Sprint. I had an ST before the Bandit and for me, it was a better motorcycle than the 1250 in almost every way.

79000 and change, and it was t-boned in 2012 with about 7k worth or parts and labour for the repair, so that affects the value.

Blue Book has the 2011 SEA with a retail low of $4,628.00.Given my high mileage, and the stigma attached to any bike that has been in any type of crash, I pretty much cannot expect too much for a trade.

Sprint GT is an excellent sport tourer, if you tend to prefer the sporty side. Triumph pretty much fixed everything Sprint ST owners have complained about over the years. I've owned both and much much prefer the GT. I cannot think of a single stand-out issue with the bike. You'll just have to check mileage related things, like whether valves clearances have been kept up, wheel bearings, suspension bits, brake rotors, wiring, etc., typical of any 33k mile bike. That 1050 triple is tough as nail and a peach of a motor.
Stripe's GT might be worth a drive, if you haven't already sealed the deal on the local one.

Alas, Stripe is about 2000 miles away, and it is a bit of a PITA to export from the US (lien search, recall letter, etc), then have to import through the Fed Veh Reg, which means an inspection, and fed and provincial taxes, etc. It is a nice bike, but given the exchange rate, costs to travel, etc, it would wind up being about 8K CAD or more to get his ride. I wish him the best in selling it.

OK that makes sense. Definitely seems reasonable in that case. Enjoy that Sprint!

Well, I am now the happy owner of a 2011 Sprint GT, 52,900 km on the odo, major service including the valve check, throttle bidy sync, coolant and brake flush etc all done about 1 month ago.The only thing is it is LOUD, as the previous owner put an after market silencer on it, and boy does it make a racket! Ride back to work was about 70 km and I had a nice grin on my face the whole way

Nice. I still miss my Sprint ST. I found the GT (on the one ride I had) to be extremely similar, but MUCH more refined. Nice buy

Congrats Kai ... awesome bikes and very under rated imho.
Prepare for a future of long fuel stops as you will approached by old, teary eyed men asking if that is a real Triumph. You may as well sit down as they then regale you with stories of their Bonneville days from yesteryear !!
It is all part of Triumph ownership. I miss my ST too! In fact it is for sale here in Castlegar !

If you are looking for a stock ehaust can I have one I will sell you. It was only on my 2011 GT for 1 year and is in perfect condition. I changed mine out for a carbon fibre trident stubby.

Putting the stock silencer back on would be sacrilege IMO. Just remembering the howl of that triple at 10k RPM's exiting through a Trident pipe still sends shivers down my spine.

Congrats on the GT! It is a fine ride indeed.
As for the exhaust racket, I'm not much into loud muffler any more, but some stock muffler just scream to be deep six'ed. The Sprint GT's is one of those - big, heavy and ugly. I adapted the MIVV GP carbon can I took off the S3R to fit on the Sprint GT and I liked it a lot. With my ear plugs on, which is all the time when I ride, I don't much hear the extra noise. If you are not wearing earplugs, you should.

Welcome to the club, though my Triumph is a Tiger (plus one of those old Bonnevilles Bubba referred to). We can engage in mutual admiration when we meet up in Nelson at the end of next week for the Borscht Burn Reinvented. We also both owned Bandit 1250 SEAs.
I got to put about 1000 km on a 2010 Sprint demo bike when my dealer's mechanic had to tear down my Bandit engine due to the mechanic's error (long story), and the dealer gave me the Sprint to ride until I got the Bandit back. I really enjoyed the Sprint and seriously contemplated getting one in 2014, but ended up going with the Tiger instead. The Tiger is great, but sometimes doesn't have the power I want, usually when passing. That won't be a problem with the Sprint.
