2017 EBR Black Lightning

New model just revealed by EBR at the IMS in Long Beach last weekend. It's an all-black 1190SX with lowered suspension to reduce the seat height 2", 1" lower footpegs, 2" higher handlebars, and lower gearing (addressing a complaint by some RX and SX riders).
Lots more pics here:

I love that you can place a $500 deposit to reserve your bike for delivery in Spring 2017 but no info on how much the bike will actually cost.

I love it except for the ass in the air. With only several inches of travel why does the pillion need a foot of clearance?

Highly doubtful that anyone would want to sit on that board....
Just can't imagine them making it.

That's a good looking bike. Bolt on some soft bags and away we go. A nice blue color and I'm standing in line. Oh yeah, about the price, if you have to ask!

They didn't make it easy to find, but the MSRP is $13995; see here:
http://www.erikbuellracing.net/store/own-one/2017-1190sx-base-colors.html
You get a $500 discount if you order before January 1.

Believe it or not, that seat is surprisingly comfortable. If that won't work for you, they have a "comfort seat" made by Corbin that will be an option:
Market share, market share, market share requires cash (cubed). They don't have a lot right now, so they're going slow. They are working on a sub-$10k platform for 2018:

Yes I know about the proposed lower end model but I am still waiting for the AX that they talked about way back...... Flip flopped on being a 1190 platform.. then not..... I sold my Uly a couple months back. Nothing on the market really gets me fired up..... Was hoping for the AX as a Uly replacement but then all of that shut down stuff happened...

This is a huge consideration for EBR, conquest sales are great, but the Loyal repeat customer is already their's, but for a product to buy.....
Even though shy of a Uly replacement this could have been made into a Sport tourer with a few more ergonomic and equipment options. I keep waiting for an American OEM to make a great, modern, price competitive "Standard" platform that can be used as a foundation for a whole 'nother" demographic and sadly Indian/Victory chases Sportster sales rather than a "Standard" based off their their Pike's Peak bikes. EBR has little coin and less time to change perception from multiple failures for both the Dealership and Buyer purchases needed to enable a workable Business Model.
I love the engine, the frame has fantastic qualities other than fuel capacity options, etc., etc. For little $, EBR could make a modern Futura, Sprint ST, etc., type offering as well as a New Uly getting them back into one of the hottest platforms for all OEMs right now. "Small" bikes are also in everyone's model line up from Honda, KTM,BMW, Harley et al, and EBR should pursue that smaller/less expensive market too as it is so important, but they have this platform now and it is the icon/cash cow to keep healthy for all the Big Picture reasons that will make or break the Brand as an OEM.
Hope the clock is on their side as the competition and the economy are not.
Cheers

I'm not a big fan of
Corbin
but a custom seat would be nice!
A trunk like the
Corbin Smuggler
to replace the pillion, too.

as a multiple Buell owner, I'm sorry to say, I think the bike is ugly, I agree it's ass is too high in the air, and I agree that the seat sucks.
My 1125 has the factory pro seat, that has served well for years, and the tail is at a much more reasonable angle.
I'm glad Erik is building his dream street legal race bike, but that's not what I am looking for.
I held out for a sport touring machine from EBR long enough, finally went out and bought an R1200RS.
Very sweet bike, powerband very similiar to the XB line, and able to ride ALL day, and haul the mail with locking saddlebags.
Black Lightning? Nah, give us an RX with a lower tail, taller bars, more comfortable seat, and saddlebags that are aerodynamically matched to the bike.

Erik is a wonderful innovator but he needs someone to run the business end of things while he designs motorcycles
That's how the Harley Davidson deal worked well for years

1 of many things that wasn't working but it's all out there on the internets... just do some searching

Buell & Harley coulda made plenty of $. If only they sold Buells in multi-brand Triumph, Ducati, Guzzi dealers and they never made the Blast!
Harley fans never looked at the Buell and Euro fans (like me) hated going into Harley dealers.
