On 8/14/2014 I bought a 2014 FJR1300A that had 1300 miles on it.  It seemed like a good buy at the time.  I had a YES on my previous 06 FJR and thought even if I didn't use it it was a good idea in lieu of Yamaha's one year factory warranty and resale.   So I purchased one.  So now I'm looking to sell the FJR and someone asks me when the YES expires.  I never did get the warranty card or contract.  I call the dealer and he says 8/14/2018.  Hmmmm.  the numbers don't sound right so I call Yamaha.  I give them the VIN and they say that bike's YES doesn't fall under your name.  The original owner bought YES when he purchased the bike on 5/1/214 and it expires on 4/30/2019.  Yamaha says I have to contact the dealer to get me as the YES owner and set the dates right.  So I finally get my Vehicle Registration Info, but what about the money I paid for a 48 month YES when the bike already had YES coverage.  I tried to work through the dealer and it boils down to they don't want to return anything.

So, am I fooked or what?   Any recommendations?

Don't tell us you didn't get a receipt!!!!!!!!! That would solve everything. How did you buy the YES program? Somewhere is has to be on a piece of paper. When I bought my YES I got a package and a receipt.

It is on my Bill of Sale and there was a separate YES check sheet where I initialed all the features of the YES.  They have also sent me a new copy of the YES agreement in my name using the dates of the original owner's purchase.  There is no disagreement that I paid for the YES and the original purchaser paid for it.  In the new agreement I actually get about 8 more month than what I paid for.  Point is that from day 1 that bike had one year of factory warranty then 48 months of YES.  The dealer had me pay the full price of a 48 month YES from the day "I" bought it (it was still under factory warranty) to 48 months later.  Yamaha was supposed to send me a copy of the contract and the warranty card (I think that may be what you are calling a reciept) but I never got them.  Yamaha may be part of the problem, because it appears like they never registered me in YES,  Either they didn't get anything from MR Motorcycle And Marine in Asheville, or they saw the problem and didn't do anything.  In my non-lawyer head, I'm smelling fraud.

No, you got them. You have it on paper that you paid and they acknowledged it. There may be a dispute about the date of start but you should come out OK. The threat of Mr Lawyer calling them should get some action.

Good luck.

Hi Blue,
Just got off the phone with Yamaha.  They checked their YES department and there is no record of MR Motorcyles purchasing or modifying my YES warranty.  They also have a record of a phone call by me about a month after I purchased the bike trying to get my YES contract and warranty card.  BBB has also sent them a copy of my complaint.  Yamaha has talked to them and sent them an email as well.  If I don't get a "check is in the mail" letter in a day or two, it's the NC DOJ and a request they be pursued for fraud.

Nice. You bought extended warranty on a bike already covered so they pocketed the cash and figured you'd be covered.  Good luck.

This entire event has come to a close.  I have spoken to the owner directly and between the both of us we have tracked down what happened and solved it.  What caused the confusion was the original owner did NOT purchase a YES warranty but when I purchased one Yamaha put it in the system as if he had.  It is more complicated than that but I did get everything in my name and about 6 more months of YES than I originally had.  The big thing to be learned here is if you think your YES transfers with the sale of the bike, don't count on it.

Thanks guys for the good advise.  That helped to get a turn this from a dog fight into a cooperative effort to get at what actually happened.
