A new adventure
«

In 1982 after the birth of our first child, I got off the saddle (Honda Custom 900) and waited until 2001 to get back on it. After 19 years off, I really didn’t know what was out there and I didn’t have a ton of money to spend on a bike. After looking at used bikes in the lower price range I decided to buy an inexpensive new bike (Honda ACE 750). Well, it didn’t take me very long to figure out that it was under powered and that cruisers were not for me.
I started looking at sport-touring bikes and when Honda updated the ST1100 to the ST1300, I decided that I would buy one but waited until the 2nd year model (2004) came out. Since then I’ve had a 2010 BMW K1300GT and a 2013 R1200RT and I did a lot of miles throughout North America. I did have a Wee-Strom for 1yr in 2009 when I still had the ST1300.
Forward to the present day, it is time for a new adventure and today I got a special delivery.
Special Delivery
Can you guess which one?
Well! I wouldn’t go on a new adventure on a hooligan bike.
2017 Yaamaha Super Ténéré ES
Why the Super Ténéré?
I wanted a bike with a shaft drive, heated grips and cruise control that would go on dirt roads without too much protest. I was also looking for a bike that had spoked wheels with tubeless tires. As I see it, the two choices were the BMW GS/GSA 1200 and the Super Ténéré.
I know that the Super Ténéré is a heavy bike but I have no plans of doing single track with this bike. What I am seriously considering is a Trans Labrador trip this year as a practice run and Alaska next year.
Now if that snow can melt and that road salt can go away I’ll be able to get a first ride in.

Congratulations Léon, that is an awesome bike. Should meet all your requirements.
And hey, seems to me you have less snow in those pics than I have seen you post in years past?!

Congrats!!
Enjoy it
I think picking the Yamaha was a smart move!
You probably know what I'm thinking but I will hold off for now!! Maybe you might want some soft luggage for her instead of the boxes. Just kidding

Very nice. A neighbour of mine has the Super Tenere, and he absolutely loves it.

I also have a Tenere in my stable, I love it. It's the perfect 'all around' bike that does it all.
I even pull a bushtec trailer when I travel from coast to coast with the little woman, can't even tell it's back there.
You are going to love the bike, check out the supere tenere forum also, lost of good info there.

Congrats!
Thanks! I've been on that site already but I haven't registered. As you say, lots of good info there.
I did my first ride yesterday and the first impressions are good.
