Disk lock WITH FLAG!!!
«
on:
March 15, 2017, 10:16:36 pm »
I'm looking for a disk lock that has a "forget and drop the bike" flag attached so I don't try to ride off with lock in place. I tried Revzilla and... nada.
The must-have here is a red strap that loops over the throttle and is effin' obvious.

Master Lock with spring tag. Comes in its own little carrying case. Had one on my VFR. Attach to front disk, loop spring tag over hand grip. Never forgot, either.

Mechanically, sure. Operationally, it makes hanging a reminder off the throttle a little more difficult. I'll take easy, thanks.

??? Whether the lock is break-in resistant or not doesn't hinge on the location. Neither wheel comes off willingly. Sure, pulling the rear wheel may well be harder. If the job is going to take time and draw an audience, all but the most stupid or die-hard of perps is going to move on to easier pickings (as it were).

Without a lock on the rear rotor, the front end, even if locked can be lifted by two guys quite easily and then they can just roll it away. Fork locked, with or without a disc lock (plus) a rear disc lock requires 3-4 guys to carry it away because it cannot roll with the rear rotor locked. They'd have to drag it. These days, locks are being frozen to defeat them and as always, 'if they want it bad enough...' My goal is to make it very very hard for any one or two guys to take my bike.

Ask LEO - if it's hard to do, most perps move on to the easy. Outwitting the determined crook is almost always a losing fight, The choice is risking a garage dump or ripping up a brake versus worrying about the very rare clowns with a truck. It's your ride - always ride your own ride.

Have you heard of these? NO chance of ruining a rotor OR dumping your bike as there is a pin that fits thru a hole in the rotor so the bike won't move AT ALL. As you might guess, I have one on the rear rotor.

I have something similar that I slip on to the disc lock. Not that you can't forget to remove it.

I have a similar (but larger) tag, from a pitot tube cover, that I drape over the (horizontal) spoke of the steering wheel in our VW pop-up camper. I haven't moved the van with the top up since getting it.
But I'd pass on the tag except at the end of a lanyard that has the tag directly on the throttle. Otherwise... sorry... in a hurry to get out of Dodge, that tag is only as good a reminder as the lock's hi-viz paint job. If the lock reminder isn't directly in the way of getting started, the lock remains an oopsie waiting to happen.

I have the disk lock RK15 for my bike:
https://www.motorcycleparts-hornig.com/BMW-R-1200-GS-LC/Accessories-Paint-protection/Disc-Lock-RK15.html
It comes with intelligent alarm system and a 14mm pin and is waterproof. In additon, I use the "memory cable" in order not to forget the disk lock.
I think it's a good solution.

Picked up one of these and it works very well.

Bought a spiral lanyard too. Total about for both ... $20. Mind you the Bayerische Motoren Werke Faithful, likely wouldn't even park next to a bike using this cheap Chines crap.

A lot of a disc lock is deterrent in my mind. See the lanyard, see the lock and move on to next victim.
