After much discussion we have decided that the WCRM will be June 9 - 11 at Weaverville.

I have contacted the Trinity Motel, and so far all they have provided me is:

We do have nonsmoking rooms open and the rates are as follows:
A room with a queen bed is $65.00 plus tax per day
A room with a King bed is $75.00 plus tax per day
A room with two double or two queens beds is $80.00 plus tax per day.

Book your time and get ready for a couple of days of fun! VROOM VROOM!

Attendees so far (? denotes a "maybe"):

I've been in and out a couple of times. Right now, I don't expect to be able to make a final decision until sometime mid-May. I'd put my chances at about 60-40 in favor of being there.

I'm afraid I'm out again. I'd been optimistic because healing from recent operation was going great. Now I'm scheduled for another and won't be ready in time for a long haul ride.

That is too bad about Lawn Dart. Miles, you can do it! I was going to run up 395 and around Lake Tahoe and go across to Weaverville. You got a better way I'll go with you. The coast on the way back was my plan.

I thought you were going to use WCRM to finish up a big Rocky Mountain ride.

The trip is now coordinated/confirmed with the five of us. I'll leave on May 30, Tuesday, and meet up with the others from two different states in Durango, Co. We'll go to Steve's cabin outside of Gunnison and then two of the fellows will go South on Thursday and Steve and I will go North to Yellowstone with Elver. You remember Elver from the New Year's Day ride we took. After Yellowstone Steve and I will break off to go our ways back home while Elver continues on to Northern California. I'll be home on Sunday or Monday. So I will have from Monday to Friday to clear everything so I can make the run for WCRM.

C'mon, you in?

Blue is Best,

You mentioned you will likely camp during the WCRM. Where were you thinking of setting up camp?

I tried messaging the Sydney Gulch RV Park and Campground, which is right in Weaverville, but have had no response from them (maybe they don't like motorcycles and tents?).

I'm off the maybe list and won't make it. The bone doc wants me off the bike until at least the 8th as my collarbone heals, and a work trip has popped up starting on the 11th. Sigh...  The timing looked perfect at first, and since the work trip is to Northern Cal, I thought I could still ride up to Weaverville and then ride back down to meet the team. At least, I thought so until this morning's meeting with the doc.

Looking forward to 2018. Hell, looking forward to getting back on the bike, period.

Upgrade your armor and ride, roll back your speed ... a bit. It's what I am doing.
My Dr says "... as your Dr, I need to tell you not to ride. But as someone who gets the role riding plays in your life, I say go for it."  Yes, mental health plays a large role in healing. And healing is a lot more than the mere physical side of things.

There's still time  Razz
There is. Not going to happen this year, though. Need to pay some stuff off.

Test rode a 2017 Multistrada 1200 today during Ducati Demo days, though. Really liked it.

Well, wouldn't you know my luck. I am now having bike issues. I may have to bail on the WCRM. I will know more in the next couple of days. I likely have to get the bike to a mechanic tomorrow.  Sad

Unfortunately I'm out this time. Airfares are crazy expensive this summer for some reason so I can't justify two trips. I think I'll add a week to the July ride to the BBB  and go North by way of the N. Rockies.
Looks like the temps may be more reasonable this time with maybe a few showers. Ride safe👍

So another change in plans - set for the 49er.

You won't see me there.  When I said I was going to make it I failed to realize that Monday is the day my kid graduates high school, so there is no way I could be out of town this weekend.

Somehow I had it in my mind that WCRM was going to be the weekend after the kid's graduation, but in retrospect. I have no idea why I had that impression.  I should have looked at the calendar a bit more closely.

Have fun and ride cheerfully, folks.  I'll see you at .5

Well, only three of us had the fortitude to brave the elements. DNA, Knobnose and myself were all that arrived in Weaverville. Wednesday's run from Vancouver to Eugene was not bad. Mostly sunny and warm. Camped out at Dexter Lake, and woke to rain.

Spent Thursday riding from Eugene to Redding. The original plan was to ver night at Castle Crag State Partk, but the cold wet weather precluded that, so Ipressed on to Redding and found a Travelodge.

Friday's very quick run to Weaverville was in the rain. Got there early and basically just lazed about.

Knobnose arrived late afternoon. We sipped a couple of beers and whiskey, and had some Mexican food for dinner. When we returned to the 49'er, DNA had arrived from the Bay Area.

Saturday the weather in Weaverville was cool, but sunny. We ripped down 3 to 36. That portion was nice. Along 36 we hit some pretty cool and wet weather. Quick stop for fuel and Rotten Ronnie's in Fortuna (sunny, breezy, and warmish). UP 101 to the 299 and back to Weaverville. A mixed bag of sun, then rain and cool temps. All told, however, a very fun ride.

Sorry the rest of you didn't make it. We had a good time.

So, should I find it amusing that the good ride of the WCRM was a loop that could just as easily have started and ended in Fortuna as in Weaverville?

Sucky about the weather. Glad some of you had fun at least.

As someone who remembers the ride from Grants Pass to Crescent City in the freezing rain (with occasional snow) as one of the worst times of my life, I once again wish that the WCRM was later in the year. Love the area, hate the time of year.

We've had several WCRMs that had nice weather, It was beautiful on Monday - I rode back to Eureka on 96/299 with with temps in the mid 60s-mid70s, clean roads and no traffic. Our timing just sucks. Mine especially, after the oven that was Weaverville last time I brought my cooling vest and left the heated one -I could have used it in the snow on 3  over Scott Summit on Sunday.

Early June is a time of highly changeable weather in the mountains. I would not dream of holding an event here at this time of year. The weather is so changeable and cold fronts abound. Once you hit about the third week of June some settling occurs and some warmth begins to stay.
This morning here, is 9c of about 47f ... pretty chilly. It will be windy and the odd tstorm will blow through. Above 4000 feet that means sleet or at least very cold rain.

The WCRM needs to move to a later date. Pure and simple. Those big redwoods that abound in NorCal and SoOregon are there for a reason.

The roads were good - Knob and Ox are good people - the weather not so much.

If moving it later in the year gets more people there and the weather improves I see it as the no brainer of the century.

Although I did miss the snow - I did ride straight through a cloud of bugs- a hatch of some kind by the rice ponds north of Sac on 5 that basically made the entire front of the bike and my face shield look carpeted.

Emergency stop and wipe clean to proceed.

Yuk. Rolleyes

Well, it is traditional to have a WCRM X.5 ride in the fall as well.

A couple of years back it was merged with Steve's Ride from the Kennewick Washington crowd. We met up in Baker City. 6 of us ripped out the Snake River and back on some very tricky roads. It was a hoot.

So, look for someone soon raising the idea of a WCRM 2017.5 some time in early to mid September.

Well,I have now booked time off work and reserved my room at the Oregon Trail Motel.

I attended the ride in 2015. It was a hoot. Good crowd, and some very fun riding.

Glad you can make it!  Thumbsup  We also had a joint "ride" in 2013 when WCRM.5 was held in Baker City the same weekend as Steve's Ride.  It was lot like the past WCRMs with riders from multiple states, British Columbia, and Alberta.

I am looking forward to it again. Let's just hope that the fire season is not as boisterous as it was in 2015!

Are you going to come up for Bubba's Borscht, Burn Lumby Ride?

No, unfortunately that is the only weekend in July that didn't work for me since I had a prior commitment.
