Picked up a new Guzzi
«
on:
May 10, 2017, 01:21:19 pm »
Last Christmas I purchased a new Guzzi. I was looking for a roadster type of bike to add to the stable, something for more local around town type of riding. I've always liked the looks of the Moto Guzzi Griso 1200 SE, so I went to the dealership to check it out (mainly because I discovered they were being discontinued). I took one on a test ride and that was all she wrote, I bought it right then and there. Even thou I've always liked the Griso, I've never really considered a Guzzi when looking for a new bike. But, the raw power and torque of this 8 valve shaft drive 110 HP 1200cc 11 to 1 compression ratio performance V twin motor took me by surprise, its a brute torque monster and a pure blast to ride. The looks of the bike drew me in, but it was the ride that set the hook. So now I own my first Guzzi, and my first V-twin. I've never been a Harley fan, and after test riding two of them, I'm still not. The fit & finish on the Griso is impeccable, the paint work is pristine, and the curves and lines of this roadster are striking to say the least. The V twin rumble is a note that I've had to get use to after coming from several Triumphs and a few Japanese bikes, but it sounds really good. Hopefully with a good track record, this will be one that I don't get rid of. After riding this bike and putting it thru its paces for 5 months now, I'm still enjoying this thing as much as I did on day one, and its had no issues. I just wanted to share my first impressions and a few pics of the 2016 Guzzi Griso 1200 SE after a little time in the saddle now.

Sweet! I miss that engine! I had the Stelvio 8v, but I was originally after a Griso. Now I have a 2 valve Norge for riding 2 up but I would love to have that glorious engine again...I may end up with a Griso yet.

It was...2016 was the last for Stelvio, Norge and Griso...sadly.
I could move up to an 8v Norge, but this 1200 ('07) is quite competent, and not slow...but it's not the exciting engine that the 8v is.

Congratulations! Beautiful bike, great choice.
I originally looked at the Griso but ended up getting a highly customized (for me) 2015 V7 Stone.

Unfortunately yes, there are only two new ones left in the state. Its the last of the air cooled motors that don't meet the new Euro 4 & 5 emission standards. Most all the manufactures have now discontinued making air cooled motors to meet these new standards.

I thought I'd replace the missing images since Photobucket pulled their crap and yanked everyone's photos.

How do you pronounce Guzzi?
Is it pronounced Gutzi with a T ?

Well that's a good question. When am American says it, there's no T, its pronounced as spelled. But when you hear an Italian say it, they definitely pronounce it with a T in the middle.
