I haven't been up there in a few years.  How crowded is the place now a days on the weekends?

I've never been but the guys on ADV say to stay away on weekends. They say it's so crowded now to either stay away completely or only go on weekday, early mornings.

Speed limit used to be 55 mph

You can't even get that fast for most of that stretch of highway

It's a zoo on weekends and can be pretty busy on Fridays too. Early on a week day is your best bet. It's the getting stuck behind a car or a cruiser, or whatever (KLR pulling a trailer with dogs in it) that just sucks. There are plenty of pullouts for people with some courtesy to use but if they don't, passing can be sketchy. Last time there I didn't notice any LEOs but it was a weekday.

Weekdays, during the school year, before breakfast... or I go somewhere else.

Rather than waste time on the “Dragon”,
ride the Cherohala. Twice.

ASSUMING you mean "due to traffic" - I (almost) agree.

IF, however, you mean "due to the road" - hummm.... I strongly disagree. On an ST1100. And I am not *particularly* fast...

Wellllll...... really can't say I can argue with ya there! Billy Joel sings a song I kinda like along these lines.  :-)

"You may be right, I may be crazy..."

Ahum... I'll just stop right there! Ha!

I remember some folks claiming to have the record time across the 11 Miles.

I want to say they were around 55 to 60 mph average.

That was a long time ago.  Early 2000’s

I bet a sumo is the perfect bike for that road. I've done it on just about every bike I've owned and it always seemed more like work than fun. A technical challenge to ride at a smooth steady brisk pace for sure. So many other roads in the area that I'd rather ride and enjoy more.
