FJR1300 saddlebag latch screws

I was getting a spare bike key made at a locksmith for my Gen 2 FJR1300 and I was checking the new keys in each lock when I realized my left bag lock wasn’t working
very well, it was sluggish and rubbery. I looked underneath at the latch and realized that one latch screw was missing, and the other was loose.
This has all been said before in other posts, but when I ran into this problem on my bike, I read other posts and put it all together in one place.
I also put it in a PDF so pictures won't ever go away. It's stored on my Google Drive account, so as long as Google nor I die, we're good for awhile.

You're lucky you didn't see the bag tumbling down the road in your rear view mirror! This is often the result of not checking those screws.

I'll take luck when I can get it, but in this case I had a zip tie securing the saddlebag to the bike when I arrived at the the locksmith, and 2 zip ties on it when I left there, so I was pretty sure it wasn't going to fall off.

Just bought a new FJR - and likewise, hadn't heard of the saddlebag latch problems until after I got the bike home. Nice job bringing all that information into one place with a clear right up. I haven't done it yet but it's on my list for this fall. PDF yoinked.

This is common knowledge if you're on any of the FJR-specific forums - it's pretty much the first thing that's mentioned when someone posts up saying they just got a new FJR.
Do yourself a favor and locktite those screws ASAP.
I did come across a PDF a while ago that someone posted where this procedure is part of the documented set-up process that the dealer is
supposed to follow
. It seems 99% of dealers completely overlook it though.

Odd thing is I red all about the saddlebags falling off maybe, but didn't see anything on the screws until mine were coming loose. Then I found loads of threads on that. I guess it's because they were older, like 2008. Th're loctited pretty securely now, as well as still having a black zip tie on each one for luck.

It's unlikely anyone would ever want to intentionally take that apart, but I would still never use red / Permanent thread sealer on anything that I couldn't put a torch to in order to remove. Blue is more than strong enough.
