F800GT - NEVERMIND, decided against the purchase.

Have a chance to pick up a low mile (1500ish) 2013 F800GT from a friend who can no longer ride for any distance due to shoulder surgeries. If any of you have firsthand experience with the F800GT, I would appreciate some feedback.

One of my primary concerns is belt life and cost. It appears the belt is only available via BMW, costs $500 and is recommended to be replaced at 24,000 miles.

Sounds cheaper than a chain & sprockets. The pulleys don't wear out.

Where do you buy your chain and sprockets????
I sold my 2000 Bandit 1200, after many wheelies, burnouts and drag strip runs, at 30,000 miles with the original chain and sprockets that were in great shape.
I sold my 2007 ZX14 after many wheelies, burnouts and drag strip runs, at 30,000 miles with the original chain and sprockets that were in great shape.

The only chain bike I've put long miles on was my Ducati. I did not abuse it but the chain was iffy and the sprockets were out of round in less than 20,000 miles.

I get about 35k out of a chain and a set of sprockets on the Bandit. A new set ( friend owns a shop ) only runs me around $150.
It appears the for the other F800 models, you can get the belt from Continental for what I pay for the chain and sprockets. The F800GT belt is different and looks to only be available via BMW and is $500!

Belts by far outlast chains, I wouldn't let that be the deciding factor. Chains & sprockets need regular cleaning & lubing maintenance about every 700 miles or so.

I have a Scotoiler on my Bandit so lubing is taken care of and cleaning is easier than it was using spray lube. The chain just runs cleaner.
Spoke to two BMW dealer’s service departments. They did say that the belt on the GT rarely needs replaced at 24 but usually needs replacing by 35k at the most. This is equal to or less than I get out of a chain/sprocket set and they do not cost me a third the cost of the belt.

48K miles... know a guy with 170K on his GT, changes belts every 50K

No longer matters, found an 08 Bandit 1250 with full factory hard bags for way less than the F800GT.

Short story. Was looking for something newer than this, but the price was right. 08 Bandit 1250 S with full zuki hard bags and 19,500 miles. Guy was asking $2999, got it for $1800 as his wife wanted it gone. Sold my 02 1200S (96+ miles) to a friend for $900 so I basically got a new scoot for $900.
Needed tires, the ones on it had a production date of the first week of 2009!
Was lowered in the rear, but the links had positions for even lower and stock so a simple repositioning fixed that.
Picked up a Suzuki gel seat from a friend for $0.00. Big improvent over the stock seat. Installed a Zero Gravity ST windshield, Holeshot ST bars and mirror extenders, Speedohealer, home made relay harness to power up to four circuits and LED position/city lights.
Still to go are a gear position indicator, V-Strom hand guards, LED tail light, electronic flasher and conversion to three wire turn signals.

Nice grab. Whatta steal! I wouldn't have been able to pass on the asking price.
