Had dinner out at the lake at alphabetman and lizzabets cabin last evening. Such a beautiful spot on a hot day.

Well, I am unfortunately out.

Did a Bun Burner 1500 this past weekend. Along with a speeding ticket I also found an oil leak when I washed the bike on Monday. Double prizes!

Talked to my extended warranty company and sent them pictures, they said it’s common for the o-ring to leak on the head bolt. They don’t want me to ride it anymore for safety reasons with oil possibly getting on the rear tire. It’ll be covered but the dealer can’t look at it until Sept 4th and that’s just to diagnose.

I am going to do my own 30K service (due now) and don’t want to tear it apart and possibly give the warranty company something to argue about.
So that means waiting until this gets fixed. There goes the rest of my summer season...

See if they’ll give you a loaner?  Maybe not to ride here, but at least you’d be able to ride...

Bummer...

Well, I cleaned up most of it and went for a 150 mile group ride last night. Don’t see anything that looks new, so the leak can’t be that bad. Must have just been 1500 miles worth of really slow leak. That was a lot of riding for two days.

So, if I can successfully do my 30K service before the 22nd I am still in.

That is a major service.
I do have a selection of o rings here and a formidable set of tools. If that helps.

For any of you who may have respiratory issues, keep an eye on this link.
Right now there is heavy smoke from fires nearby and it is not pleasant at all.  I don’t imagine it will last but wanted everyone to be fully informed.

We are getting smoked out here in Vancouver too. Air quality warning was posted yesterday. We are getting smoke from the Chilcotan AND California.

Shim kit arrives today so I'll be working on the bike for the next few evenings. Hopefully everything goes ok.

Due to work my plans have changed a bit and I will be riding straight through on Friday from Vancouver, WA. Not sure when I'll arrive on Friday evening, should be around dinner time though.

Thanks for updates on the fires, I logged on to actually look for info on this. I might have to rig a Darth Vader respirator in the helmet!

You can pick up an N95-grade particulate filter mask at places like Home Depot that will filter smoke particles. The regular painter's dust masks are insufficient.

And for current wildfire information:

https://governmentofbc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=ef6f11c8c36b42c29e103f65dbcd7538

And BC highway information:

http://www.drivebc.ca/

As of yesterday evening there's a wildfire burning about 20km west of Creston that has Highway 3 closed intermittently over Kootenay pass. Hopefully it's resolved before next weekend otherwise the alternate route is the Kootenay Lake Ferry.

Our air quality is seriously deteriorating... we are at 428 on the AQI scale and the worst air in BC.

View of our mountain out our backyard ...not ! You ca just make out the ridge line.

Well. Things are not great here. Just got off the phone with alphabetman and his property, the site of the Saturday BBQ, is now under evacuation alert. High winds yesterday expanded the Deer Creek fire dramatically and the smoke is horrible and likely worse up the lake than here. His plan is to pack up today and leave. So no BBQ for sure.

We have begun getting our precious items together in case of an unlikely evacuation but erring on the side of caution.

The evacuation alert begins only 5 Miles from here at the Keenlyside Dam and then all the way to alphabetman’s cabin.

Our Air Quality Index is 472 right now and is Hazardous to health with ash falling like light snow.
http://aqicn.org/city/british-comlumbia/castlegar-zinio-park/

I rode yesterday, when it was 275 and it was unpleasant.

So ... I cannot imagine camping in this air or it being any fun for a visit. There is no change in the forecast that I can see over the next week and unfortunately, there is wind again this morning coming down the lake

We could just meet here I suppose, but apart from sitting in the pub ...

So ... gonna have to cancel this years event.

You are welcome to visit if you are in the area. But there is no point pretending or hoping for a change.
