I am back to living in New Mexico. Always liked it here. I am now closer to riding in the Four Corners area where I really like.

You got that right. Closest enough to visit best friends and relations and then get out.

There are quite a few nice spots. Red River sure is one of the prettier spots. One day when you have a riding urge we are close enough to meet half way and get lunch. My treat!

I say Texas is hot and humid but you being from the East coast are used to the humidity already!

WOW! I just showed all how slow I am!!! I see where you are from now. You are WAY South. In the good parts of the year for riding you must go quite a distance to get to anywhere that has mountains and trees.

You moved near Brownsville. You expected different? That far south, it can be 102º by April. BTDT.

Congrats! One of my favorite states.
Where about are you living NE, NW, SE, SW?
I like the Abiquiu area.
We have thought about buying property out there many times. Still might. I heard it is expensive to leave once you become a resident.
Good luck and keep us posted on the transition..
Thanks

I am Rio Rancho which is next to Albuquerque on the North side. Abique(sp?) is very pretty and there is good riding around that part of New Mexico.

No, no, no. Abiguiu(I looked up the spelling, unlike Fly Boy) is North of Albuquerque about 100 miles. Very beautiful up there.

I would like to go back out to NM and spend more time exploring the good roads. Usually only ride thru the northern part when going to CO.
Only problem riding out there is it is such a long slog to get there and the Ozarks are so much closer.

My son and two of his buddies were going to do an Iron Butt SS1000 out to Albuquerque avoiding the big interstate (I 40) in September. He invited me to come along. One of the guys crashed his bike and the trip was called off.

Lake Abiquiu is where we have stayed a couple times to camp. The painter Georgia O'Keefe used to paint near there and stay at the Ghost Ranch, which is also very cool. I have hiked up Chimney Rock.
We rented a GS from a guy named Chris White. Very awesome guy indeed. Put on about 600 miles in the two days we had the bike.
We loved the Angel Fire area
Also White Rock overlook and the Caldera National Preserve. Route 4
We also loved Taos and Santa Fe, of course.
Good luck and enjoy.

The plan was for a "lunch ride". Out and back. About 520 miles each way.

I seriously doubt that I could do 600. 400 is about my maximum, although I've never really tried more.

Blue, you are in Rio Rathole now?
I live here also, have we met anywhere?
I'm near western hills and unser, the Brew house is very close to home
I'm usually riding the Jemez, or up around Mora to RR at least once a month.
Have done a few SS1000's looking to do more.

We may have passed each other a time or two. This Friday at 10:00a me and a couple of buddies are going to Jemez for a burger. A month or so ago me and one of the buddies were coming back from Jemez and I turned off and followed a BMW to around your area. You? I was on the blue FJR.
Give me a PM and we will meet up for a coffee when you have time. I'm retired so I have a lot of time.

Do I detect a bit of sarcasm/jealousy there?

Can't speak for Jay, but for me pure unadulterated jealousy!

Sorry, it's been way too long since I checked in here!
Blue, looks like you've been busy getting out and about.
My Beemer is a blue and white R1200RS, so if that is what you saw near my neighborhood, that probably was me
I'm retired from the military, but couldn't afford my riding habit and had to go back to work.
But I am looking at two consecutive 3 day weekends coming up, so if the weather is nice, I'm up for riding

I was sort of upset when I learned that the fed was closed yesterday. I knew it was out of respect for Bush so rolled with it. What chapped me is that, because I retired in 2012, I didn't get the day off from work.

Let's see here. This looks like a classic balance of pro vs con. Retired and have government check rolling in or still have to work and get ONE day off. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer but this sounds simple enough for me.
Me and Buelligan are going to catch up in the next day or so. Not sure which bike he will be riding so I'll bring my jumper cables.

When I read these sort of threads, it reminds me of two things that I hate: crappy weather and working.

If it's any consolation, I didn't get the day off

I think some of these retired people should organize a Colorado STN rally.

Great roads in every direction! The grand mesa, hwy 92, hwy149, hwy550, hwy 142 just to name a few.

I remember this post! I was in California but couldn't get over there due to other plans.
I will try very hard to make this ride next year(2019).
Good ride/introduce today!!
