Need advice from K1600 owners

Folks:

I've retired my '03 ST1300 and am about to take delivery on an '18 K1600GTL.  I'm new to BMWs.

There are a few things I plan to get right away, an RDL seat with rider backrest, and highway pegs (for which I'll need crash bars I guess)

I'm planning an October trip from St. Louis to Vegas and back (2 days out solo, 9 days back 2-up), and would like to get my farkling settled well before then.

Any "must have" farkling suggestions?

I thought a final drive on this bike was built so the bike would have LESS maintenance required?

Congratulations on your new motorcycle.  I see quite a few of them around my neck of the world, the the riders appear to be pretty happy.

From what I gather, and from the lack of serious responses on this forum to your question, those K 1600's come pretty much pre-farkled with just about everything you need and want built in at the factory.  In you position, I would just take that road trip and let the road help you figure out what you want extra.  

After you get back, let us know what you think the K 16 needs.  WBill

I was serious. I know a couple who DNFed on 2 different IBRallies on 2 different K1600s because of failures that couldn't be fixed in time (part availability).

It's about 177 times more than a K9.

We have to go easy on Steve. After all, he has already bought one so we should be supportive. I test rode one a few years back when they were new. I thought it was fine. The power to me was not over powering but you could get out of the way when you needed to. The suspension was good and the brakes were good. I wasn't then, nor am I now, enamored with electronic gizmos. I'm a rider so that is where I put my focus.

I had my 2005 FJR that I had farkled just the way I wanted. Electronic cruise control and lighter weight with more power than it came with. When I got off the K1600 I really thought they were similar.            

If Steve doesn't have the various BMW issues he will be very happy with his new road bomb.

Just from observations of people I know, you might want to talk to your Doctor about meds that may weaken any violent tendencies you may have.

These will all come to light with your 1st BMW dealer experience.
