Yeah, check it out. The long plug caps have a brass(?) screw affair that the plug wire screws into. There is a reason that Yamaha says to never pull on the plug wire to get the long plug cap off the plug. Look at all the plug caps and you may have one that is loose.

I have been meaning to tell you your fix was bang on. I pulled all the plug wires loose and found that on the #1 cylinder brass screw on inspection was badly discoloured, but was not found to be loose. I reseated everything and my agonizing issue was resolved. The final ride of the year (about 2 months ago) saw a flawless running FJR 1300 which I promptly rode like I stole it. (apparently the RCMP were told to stay home that day)
