It depends if people self isolate or not.
And when they develop an effective treatment to reduce/prevent the more complicated outcomes for those who get it.
And when they develop a safe and effective vaccine.
And if the virus doesn’t mutate into other strains unaffected by the vaccine or immunity from prior exposure.
Still, things are not as bad as they seem. I think the economic impact of COVID-19 will be worse than the loss of life. We’re making ventilators en masse, we’re getting up to speed with PPE production, we’re working on a vaccine, and we’re seeing promising results from the first generation of drug treatments to help patients recover. A person getting it now probably has a 500% better chance of a good outcome than someone back in January. The places hardest hit have factors that don’t apply globally that explain why they are so hard hit. Don’t look to the worst case scenarios to judge what will happen in your area. There’s a reason I chose not to live in an urban area...even if it meant limiting job options....this was one such contingency.
