Anyone going to buy new during this Coronavirus time?
«

Is it a good time to go out and get a new bike? On the one hand, dealers are struggling and may make one heck of a deal on a new bike. On the other hand, quite a few are closed. I guess they are just waiting to see what happens.
I emailed a dealer several days ago and the manager emailed back that they are open only for a limited amount of business. I replied asking if he would open up for a new bike sale. No response back.

I bought my once-in-a-blue moon new bike March of last year. So, no.

I really hate to take advantage but now does seem to be a time of great deals. I'm looking around. Of course, it also means now there is no chance of selling a used bike.

Yeah, Lisa's had her 650 Ninja on a local site for about a month with only two responses. Both wanted to trade despite the ad specifically stating "no trades."

Two responses? Not bad. Yeah, I don't get why people disregard what you put in the ad.

I promised myself in February that if I made it through dental surgery, and the problem with my neck/shoulder turned out to not need surgery, and my cancer biopsy came back negative, that I would celebrate by buying the new bike that I have wanted for some time......and then my wife got laid off as her company basically shut down her whole division. I’ve gotten to the point where I believe that it might never open up again too. She had planned to retire next July, but we have lost so much money in our 401K accounts that I don’t think that she will be able to do that. She will never find another job that pays her anywhere near what she was making...she was one of 3 regional managers for the whole country and had worked for the same company for 38 years. Meanwhile, the medical bills are coming in for my problems over the last 3 months. So barring a miracle that stops this pandemic in its tracks and results in the economy suddenly going back to what it was, I don’t think that I will be making any purchases that I don’t really need for awhile. Not complaining mind you, there a lot of people that are much much worse off than we are. We’ve got some savings, my limited income from SS and pension hasn’t been effected, and we don’t have huge bills other than the house payment. But going from a six figure income to $550 a week from unemployment is a huge difference. Adjustments have to be made.

Thank you....biopsy did come back negative, neck and shoulder are pain free, and I’m adjusting to missing my wisdom teeth, so all is good on that front. Here in KY the virus is not spreading much outside of a few urban counties. Most people staying home and not much traffic out and about. So I’m not to worried about it. But it has totally disrupted most of the economy and we will all suffer the effects in one way or another.

I think FlyBoy is on the mark, K. Your health is the most important thing. If you have your bills covered, transportation and food in the refrigerator, then, you are doing better than a lot of people.
Now for some simple advice that I think may solve your new motorcycle problem. No charge for this advice, by the way. Sit your wife down and respectfully, lovingly and with the most caring attitude you can muster, tell her she must get TWO jobs to help with the new motorcycle payment.
Let us know how that works out.

Honda has 90 days deferred first payment. Time to get a 450L.

That’s not healthy at all!
Seriously though, I think that the economic uncertainty that many many people are now facing is going to be a really big impediment to the economy recovering quickly. Not just motorcycles, but virtually any large purchase is going to be something that many people will think twice about making right now.

It could be a great time and we all need to go on living our lives so as long as you practice social distancing during the sale all is well.

Consider the huge demand for employees when this is over. With a little caution, someone could actually get a "raise" when they renegotiate.

"In these uncertain and trying times, thoughts and prayers go out to all who exercise social distancing while bike shopping."
Ugh, more cliches interjected into our vocabulary to overuse and abuse.
To answer the question, no. I bought new 2 years ago and am extremely happy with my bike.

Got lucky and work has been going well for the wife and I, managed to sell my 01 FZ1 with little hassle, some other financial stars were in alignment and ordered a 2020 FJR ES. I was planning on seeing if I could find an older one with very low miles but saw the paint scheme and said screw it. Been on the FZ for 15+ years and decided to treat myself to a new one. Went with the ES since I bounce back and forth with 1 and 2 up riding.
Bunch of mods planned once received so there will be some toys to go along with that; Helibar Risers, aux lighting, better horn, stealth backrest, front and rear cams, possibly a LAAM seat after riding for a bit to see how the stock seat feels, Delkavic slip ons.

The dealership that I work at ( part time ) is open for parts and service. Sale is by appt.
