Riders are incredibly smooth at riding these beasts (racers said the 500’s were very hard to ride)

Having never been a racer, something has always puzzled me: What is the purpose of the sock or gauze around the brake reservoir?

OK, I'll admit it. Until now I haven't watched the video. FlyBoy's
interesting
title has kept me from exploring the video. WOW! Looks like the Isle of Mann. I love those two strokes. You see how the bars would wiggle as the camera guy went over the crest of the rises? Real brave.
