I went for a ride on Saturday. Another member of the FJ-09 forum wanted to do a socially distanced group ride up to an elk viewing area near Jewell, Oregon, so I went. I needed to do another test run after some mods to my aux fuel system. After two straight weeks of beautiful weather around here, naturally it rained Saturday.

It was nice to get out, weather be damned. I installed this aux fuel system because I plan to ride in the Butt Lite Rally this year, but an added benefit was that I was able to do a ~250 mile ride without ever stopping for fuel. I packed a sack lunch, so except for talking to the other rider from 10+ feet away I never interacted with anyone and didn't touch anything except my own motorcycle.

Dan and I took the bikes out for the first time since we got back from Africa two months ago. It was a beautiful day and we had some home brew from a friend to pick up. Always good to have an "essential" reason to head out!

KeithU- You'll have to explain how you tapped into the stock gas supply. Good idea!

Mrs DD- Wow! That is green! Very nice.

I drilled a hole in the bottom of the tank and installed a bulkhead fitting. The aux tank is higher than the main tank, so when the main tank gets low I open a ball valve and the fuel gravity feeds into the main tank.

Another method that some people use is to plumb the aux fuel into the main tank's vent line, but some people have reported that the can strain the fuel pump and eventually lead to failure.

Drilling a hole in the tank is obviously scary, but I did it before on my old TT600. The FJ-09 is challenging because there isn't much usable flat surface on the bottom of the tank, and everything under the tank is packaged very tight. I love my FJ-09, but it is a terrible motorcycle to work on or modify.

Why don't you do it every day then?AFAIK, there's no law against it.

My lady and I were just riding up in Wisconsin Sunday, and two Sundays before that too.

Riding by oneself is one of the safest things one can do outdoors now. Safer than going for a walk in my suburban neighborhood, as the locals here don't educate their kids on distancing...

I do now. The post was from April. The height of the COVID-19 scare when police have been enforcing shelter at home laws and sketchy weather around these parts.

You had posted your FJR1300 for sale because you were getting out of bikes. Have you changed your mind?
