Good idea but execution would have to be correct.  E bicycles are super popular but a lot of companies including Yamaha are getting in on it.

I think they should move forward and not back.  They can have some accents of the past but need to look forward.. ie.. newer mustang.. Camaro .... challenger

HD and bicycles? Yeah, that's the ticket! We can't sell $20,000 plus motorcycles to a loyal following so we're now going to cheapo bicycles for the young college crowd.

E bicycles are hot right now but like I say that doesn’t mean HD will sell.

HD is still considered a premium brand in many areas of the world.  They just signed a deal with Hero in India to have motorcycles produced and sold in that huge market, via the Hero group.  They already have a similar deal with a Chinese group.

Their strategy seems to be to cash in on their Name when investing in emerging markets. To use already established production and distribution networks to produce and sell products suitable to those markets, but with the HD name on them.  Meanwhile, in the US and European markets they will continue to produce and sell their more traditional models.

I hope it works for them.

Thanks for sharing this.  Good stuff concerning the business end of HD.

Having spent a bit of time in Asia, HD's expansion here might get a bit confusing. Headscratch

The last time I was in Thailand, the number one selling motorcycle there was the Honda Dream 125 cc. They sold 3 million copies of this bike in Thailand alone. That bike stars in all those photo's you see of the entire family riding it. This is really the #1 form of transportation there. people don't drive an suv to work, they ride their 125 dream.

A 700 lb bagger is not something your would consider riding around Bangkok, especially when the average Thai man is say oh 5'5" tall and weighs oh maybe 150 tops. So safe to say that tall & heavy bikes don't go over well here. You will see the odd HD around but you will probably spot a unicorn easier.  Also, the average family income in Thailand is about 3 grand a year so after groceries & rent there is not a lot of money around for bike payments.

Here is the Bangkok bike scene. As you can see, a bagger ride here would be similar to driving a semi through their traffic, and I am pretty sure you would have the bags ripped off on your 1st ride here. By the way, driving a car here is more terrifying than riding a scooter.

I’m assuming apparel is very popular there.
