I heard it said that if you own a car, you are in the top 6% of wealth in the world.

If you have clean water to drink, you are in the top 5%.

Got the ham in the smoker too...

You better hurry up. We switched from turkey to smoked ham a few years ago. With ham, everyone takes leftovers. When we had turkey, no one took any.

From my home to the middle of your city is 675 miles. At 75 mph average I'm nine hours away.    Sad    Too late for Thanksgiving dinner.     Thumbsdown

Since I cooked everything myself, I didn't eat as much.

Not looking forward to leftovers as much either.

Except the pie.  My pumpkin pie is excellent.  Had it for breakfast and will have another piece later.

Ordered a pre-cooked family mean from Albertson's. Prime Rib because the Turkey one ($20 cheaper) had cranberry sauce (ick). Got it home and found it was the turkey meal for someone else. Oh well, too late to swap. Fixed the turkey and sides for my brother and I yesterday. Nice. No trouble and much less cleanup. Tasty and not dry turkey in 3 hours (to re-heat in oven).

If I was to make a Thanksgiving meal here (which I don't - we went to the corner shop for falafels), you can bet that I wouldn't be making a turkey - at least not at these prices!

That's about $72 for 9 pounds of turkey

It is good-tasting turkey (I bought one once, years ago when a German relative wanted a "real" American Thanksgiving). The thing is, these turkeys had a "good life" - unlike the disgusting turkey factory farms that provide Americans with cheap turkeys. Plus, pretty much only the ex-pats even want a whole turkey, so its a specialized (and therefore more expensive) item.  Embarassment

Well, turkey prices aside, I had eleven people over for a nice dinner. Had Christmas music going, very nice conversation, and we all got a chance to share what we thought we were blessed/thankful for. Then, everyone left their "brought along" food!!. Just now I am finishing another piece of pie with my coffee!!! At 6:10a my time. Nice breakfast!!
