I had previously offered a place for Jay to stay if he ever got over this way. Maybe ride up to Colorado. I'm thinking different now!!!

I rode the KTM over to my buddy's home in the mountains today. Had 300 miles on it and 341 when I arrived. No more KTM. On the ride over, 90% on the freeway, the ride convinced me that this bike is a hyper bike that doesn't want to putt around town. Hate to see it go but it just wasn't to be.

That's the same way I feel riding the FJ09 and Griso. Gotta go, gotta go faster, push, push, push...
Conversely the FJR and R1200GS have no issues "putting" around, but do well when "fed the beans", so to speak.
The WR 250 seems to be a typical small dual sport style... pin the throttle then hammer the brakes, repeat process.

My ZX14 with handlebars that I put on one month after purchase with the lower foot pegs would putt around!! The smoothest most vibration free motorcycle I've owned. That was a hyper bike that I could take anywhere and ride however I liked.

A ZX14 is on my short list along with a new 1000SX. I know, I know, not quite apples to apples.... But my question, why aren't on a ZX14? Ergos?

Not sure of your question?!
Why doesn't Kawasaki put handlebars on from factory? Good question! With not much effort, Kawasaki could have a great sport touring bike.

Ahhhhh. I sold mine after seven years and 30,000 miles. I had two bikes and tried to sell both and figured I'd keep the one that didn't sell. Kawasaki went first and so I kept the FJR1300. Loved them both but at the time I HAD to sell one of them. Now? I really wish I would have kept the ZX14.
Handlebars, lowered foot pegs, 12V power socket, CENTERSTAND, full Hindle exhaust system, ecu reflashed and supports for soft side bags. Thing was the smoothest bike I've ever owned and a rocket ship.

I think it's time for you to get a Hardley if you just want to putt around.
What did you think a SuperDuke GT was built for? It's made to go fast as hell around corners, so you can drag your knees, and wear them chicken strips all the way to the edge.
It's like getting a Thoroughbred race horse and trying to plow the fields of corn with her.
Did you have to change your shorts when you got done riding it?
I mean, they can be scary bikes...

For over 90% of the time none of us ride in the top 1/3 of the power band. Unless someone is a 600cc squid and rides around at 6,000 or greater all the time then, to me, a motorcycle has to have a power band that is WIDE. That's my riding style. I actually take great pride in milking my bikes for gas mileage!! The SD GT was unhappy at less than about 3500 rpms. As I've written a couple of times here the bike would be a great road burner and mile muncher. BUT, I don't always ride like that.
Speed has never scared me. Doing throttle wheelies due to outright power has never scared me. I never redlined it because I was breaking it in. Too bad. I would have loved to see what it had!!

Just from my POV... 6000 RPM's on a 600 I4 sport bike is pretty low in the rev range and they are usually very docile at those levels. It's not till between 10,000 and 16,000 RPM's that you come on the cams and secondary throttle bodies. That's when the bikes really show what they have.
And I fully understand how a big, over squared twin demands to be ridden hard and fast. Just in their nature.
