I went for a burger run last Friday with a couple of buddies. I took the FJR1300 as now it is the only bike I have.

We went for the same run to the Jemez Pueblo area to a place called the Los Ojos today. Getting to be a Friday scheduled event. The owner and waitress know us by name now. Not a bad ride. About a 100 mile round trip for me.

Glad to hear your getting some riding in. Wish I could say the same, other than just commuting to work.   Rolleyes

Seems when the weather cooperates, I have to be at work and when I'm off, there isn't much of a window to get out for more than an hour or two. I've ridden "wildcat curves" and "Hogback road" so much lately that it's getting a bit worn out. Those are the only good non-straight roads close. I'm finding myself out on the dual sport more now than the street bikes.

Pics or it didn't happen.  Razz

I'm having the same weather/work problems over here in the east part of the state. Yesterday, I finished putting new tires, chain, sprockets, and brakes on the dual-sport. Of course, it's Saturday and it's going to rain all day.

At a minimum we require:

1. pic of place with bikes and buddies in front
2. pic of burgers
3. pic of owner and waitress

Major Fail!!!!  --
I don't see pics of the burgers ---   Lol

BTW -- I'm slightly envious -- have 5 inches of snow on the roads here... I like to travel for my snow and get it in feet in the mountains as opposed to inches on the way to the grocery stores with empty shelves....

You know, there is just something I don't get about taking pictures of your plate.

If you look hard enough you can see some snow in the pictures. Not much but it is in the shadows. Just the amount I like!!

"ticket bait bike"

Funny...  A friend, I have traveled with several times, has gotten a couple tickets during our trips when the cops didn't even see me. I joke with him that his Ducati is "arrest me red", where I ride a "grown up gray" Yamaha.

In the Jemez I have been pulled over going 27! in a 25 mph zone and then 26! in the same zone. So I figured out they mean what the signs say!! There are plenty of other roads close by where safety is the speed limit.

Not to high-jack your thread, but a buddy and I are going for a BBQ lunch ride tomorrow, then over to Seaba Station Motorcycle Museum on RT 66. Supposed to be another Ducati rider coming that I've never met. I'm so ready to start getting some riding in. Gonna stretch the Griso's legs a bit running with a couple of Ducs.

If you're listening Jay, lunch is at Butcher's BBQ in Wellston at about 12:30. We'll find a spot for ya at the table.   Wink

No worries from me on the hi jack stuff. After all, it is Region 2!!

I checked and from where Jay lives to where you are eating is about 80 miles one way. A bit far for Jay I think.      Bigok

Saturday rode the Griso to a Motorcycle Museum, then a BBQ place, then just around the countryside. Did only about 80 miles.

Yesterday took the GS to meet a friend about one of his friends being interested in buying my bike. We swapped bikes for the 50 mile ride to his friends house. I rode Dwight's F6B. I had to fight falling asleep on it (You know the feeling when setting on a real comfy couch). They took turns riding my GS for a while. His friend really liked it but his wife said no. Told him he should get a new one, not used.

So my friend made me an offer and I accepted. I'm not really sure how I feel about letting my old GS go.  Sad

Had a couple of large ADV bikes, and really liked them both. But... keep thinking dropping down to the Tenere 700 would be a fun bike to play with, or another travel capable dual sport/ADV (Africa Twin?). Will still keep the FJR for touring duty, the FJ09 for Debra (and me to play on occasionally) and the Griso, because I'm a little bit off.   Wink

The WR250x may be on the short list.   Headscratch

Saturday rode the Griso to a Motorcycle Museum, then a BBQ place, then just around the countryside. Did only about 80 miles.

I would've liked to have joined you but we had stuff to do Saturday morning. I hopped on the 450L about noon and got in about 160 miles. I went back to the same area Sunday and got in about 130 more. Raj will be pleased to know that I will be posting up some water and bridge pictures soon.  Wink

Blue, why don't you put together a regional or national meet there in NM? Maybe for late summer/early fall...

Yes, just avoid Labor Day weekend (Springfield Mile) and the week after (Mustang Island trip).   Bigsmile

Now a Regional/National meet is an excellent idea!! That would require quite a bit of investigation/planning/work/coordination on my part. None of that I am too excited about. I dislike that I was nominated and now the world is watching.  Sad   In fact, I am angry.     Angry3

But I can't argue with it!!           Bigok           Bigsmile       Great idea!

Some here may think since I am retired that I sit around all day and watch the grass grow. Not so. Actually I am busy most of the time but I will begin thinking seriously of how to do this in a way that would attract riders from far places and be a ride that all attending would have something to talk about for a long time.

Been riding!

Three of us left about noon Sunday and rode 200 miles up North to the Eagle Nest area. Just beautiful. They have been getting afternoon rain for weeks. We didn't get much and none at night. Everywhere was green. Nice change with these monsoons. Set up camp next to a running stream. Slept like a baby!! Got back yesterday, Monday, about 400 miles 'round trip. Went a different way back and got to ride a way I haven't been in some years.

Congrats!!  out of curiosity, could you hammock camp around there?   I've gotten very used to that in the mid-atlantic on motorcycle trips -- much less gear - but somewhat less flexible in some places -- IE not feasable on beach trips, places that don't have lots of trees.   I imagine that desert camping would also be a problem.

One of the guys brought his hammock but couldn't use it due to space of trees. He brought along his sleeping bag and blow up pad for inside his tent. It got down to high 30s there in the morning!!

If I go West out of town for a burger it is right at 100 miles 'round trip. Not too bad with open country and scenic hills and canyons. If I go East through town and up to the top of the mountain(10,000 feet) it is right at 100 miles!! The way I go depends on my mood!!

Two motorcycle camping buddies have planned an over night ride on Sunday afternoon up to the New Mexico and Colorado border area. This time to actually do some fishing. They are the ones that I posted about above with the pictures of our trip. Good guys. I'm on the fence due to other things.      Headscratch

I rode in New Mexico just a little today. No flags on my bike.

Was heading home from a short Colorado hiking vacation. We stopped in Guymon, Oklahoma because the weather went bad. Monsoon season in full effect with high outflow and gust front winds.

At least you missed the 100* stuff.

The weather was actually quite good, way better than predicted. Hit a big cell in Oklahoma on the way out and had a couple late afternoon and over-night storms in Manitou Springs (our destination). On the way home was dicey in the panhandle of Oklahoma. In Clayton we saw a window to squeeze through and all looked pretty good, with huge cloud bursts on the horizons to the right, left and behind. Until we got to about 30 miles from Guymon. We could see the North and South cells converging in front of us, then came big outflow cross winds, 30 to 40 mph with some higher gusts blowing tumble weeds across the road, that kept up all the way into Guymon, but the heavy rain held off till after we stopped at a hotel. All kinds of storm and flood warning in front of us, so easy call to finish the trip tomorrow. Only 260 miles to go, but...

Using my old sailboat racing tactics stuff, we upped the pace quite a bit to get the "apparent wind" as much forward as we could. Passed a few vehicles that we came up on so fast I bet they had no idea we were coming and said something like "what the hell was that" as we went around.   EEK!

Been a really fun trip with a couple milestone things done, hiking to the top of Red Mountain and the Incline at Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Maybe several of us can pool some money and get FlyBoy professional counseling!     Bigok

Yesterday three of us went the back way through the Valle Grande to Los Alamos for lunch. We wanted to go back that same way but a thunderstorm moved in and we had to go through Santa Fe(FlyBoy's favorite city) and down the interstate home. A touch over 200 miles on one tank on the Suzuki.   Bigsmile    Yep! 54 MPG!!

I had a day-long ride planned for today on the FJ-09. The last couple of times I rode to work, I noticed the battery was cranking slow. This afternoon, it barely started. I thought I had better check it again before I got a hundred miles away. I shut it down and it would not restart. By the time I found a battery in stock and got it put in, I had burned up a good portion of the day. I ended up just doing a short, turnpike loop. It was still fun though.

My bike is a 2015. I believe it was the original battery. I bought the bike in 2016 with 5800 miles on it and I've never changed it. The bike now has 50,000+miles.

Yep, I'm a firm believer in battery tenders. We started using them several years ago after each bike was going through about a battery a year. Out of five bikes on tenders, this is only the second battery that's been replaced.

I'm on the road at about noon. Bike is shined up, gassed and my stuff is loaded. All I need to do is gear up and hit the road. This will be the first time I have packed my fishing pole/tackle. Me and the buddies want to catch dinner and breakfast!!! Going North where it will be cool.

We're on the road tomorrow too - except we are driving. We're going to visit Lisa's mom in Minnesota. I'm taking the 450L and doing a couple half-day rides while we're there. raj, be expecting lots of bridge and water pic's.  Bigsmile

Have a good ride and fish, Blue.

Thanks, Jay.

Left on Sunday and arrived at Costilla at the Colorado border. Went down a road that one of the buddies had fished at years ago. Beautiful. Then, signs posted everywhere $25 per vehicle??! That's for "wild" camping. No nothing there. Truck pulls up and he says the land belongs to some group and as far as we go they own it. Thanks, NO!

We head into Colorado and over, West, to where we had originally planned to go. I thought much better. We set up on the river in greenery and big trees. FREE. No one around. Just beautiful. Caught our dinner and slept to the music of running water!. About 400 miles 'round trip. Got home about 3:00p Monday. That is my idea of an overnight!    Bigsmile

I took some pictures, about six, which is great for me!  Can't find the SD card so I think some how it is in the mountains.          Sad         Not too happy just now.     Angry3

I left about 8:45a and went up to the top of the mountain. 100 miles round trip. Got back at about 11:00a. Very nice and cool. I saw a mamma deer and two little fawns that still had their spots. Born this Spring for sure.

Took a picture of the bike with the Delkevic silencer I had from the Bandit 1250. I put it on yesterday. Looks way better than stock. IMO   Bigsmile

Leaving this Friday to Creede, Co for lunch. 250 miles from my home. Going to meet a buddy that lives in Gunnison, Co. 500 mile round trip for the day. Sure is a great ride.

Nice!

It isn't the miles - it is the road type. I used to ride from Seattle to Castlegar (BC), leaving Saturday morning for the 500 mile ride there and then coming home on Sunday. But the roads were awesome so a 1,000 mile weekend was never a problem, and it was a great excuse to visit my friend Jim (bubba zanetti)

Back when I actually had to stop and get off the bike to take photos  Lol

Your getaway sounds like what I like to do!! The road to Creede is a great one. Too bad some of my riding buddies won't do that sort of ride.           Sad               500 miles in a day? Too much for them.

Went out Saturday morning a bit early to beat the traffic. I wanted to go up the mountain again. Had to pull over once I got on the freeway because I got cold!!! Had to put on some insulation under my vented jacket. Once I started up the mountain I looked in my mirror and there was a sport bike on my tail. Couldn't tell what it was but I "put some coal in the fire" to see if he was a wannabe. He's on my tail!!  OK, my competitive side comes out. Sort of like Jeckle and Hyde. I start paying attention now and we're past the "sporting speed" limit and I haven't ridden this new to me GSX S1000 this fast yet. On the brakes hard, pouring the gas on as early as I think the tire can handle, hit a couple of relines in the lower gears and this guy is still on my can! I can pull him a bit on the very short straights but he gathers me back up in the corners!!         So we get to the top and have a very nice discussion. He rides a Kawasaki Z900 with sticky Michelins. His second Z900 after many 600s and such. He says he lives on the mountain and rides every weekend up and down. Been doing track days at near expert speed.

I'm mad now!  I have to get some good tires!!

And maybe go to the track?

Sorry, I got "old" somewhere and disapprove of using public roads like personal race tracks.

I hear you and agree. I am planning a track day with some friends soon. I "usually" ride nice around cars because I don't want to give me and other bikers a bad name.

We see eye to eye on that one ---   same reason I don't drive like a bat out of hell on Va, WV, Tn, Al, Ga back roads with caver stickers on my car...  I may one day need to ask those locals for permission to hike on their land.

but on the bike, if someone wants to be the rabbit on a mtn road, I'll sometimes follow at a safe distance...    Embarassment

unless they're riding Blue -- 'cause that's no challenge for a kawasaki...    Bigsmile

I think he owns three bikes. Unless his info is wrong. Besides, he's always popping off about his ZX10. You know, it's green.      Hurl

Tell you what -- get sticky tires and I'll let the guy on the 900 keep smoking your 1000 -- maybe THEN you'll get frustrated enough to sell the thing at a good discount...  My garage has space...

Man! I ain't ridden in 5/6 weeks. Got on my GSX S1000 this morning and the clutch wouldn't work. Then I realized that I was pulling in the front brake lever!!!!!!!!

Went for a beautiful ride to Los Alamos for lunch. Very nice and colors too!

On the way back I ran my buddy with the modified MT10. My stock ECU, decat pipe Suzuki handed him his lunch!! That is with my TALLER gearing. My 5th gear is HIGHER than his stock 6th gear!!
I just love that Suzuki. Got 54 mpg too.

I have been busier than a one armed wall paper hanger this past week. I will try to go for a ride today and take pictures of our color.

I am leaving later today to go to Dallas/Fort Worth area for my nephews wedding and when I get back I have to go to Las Vegas for my granddaughter's bday.      I work harder now than when I worked.
