Not to high-jack your thread, but a buddy and I are going for a BBQ lunch ride tomorrow, then over to Seaba Station Motorcycle Museum on RT 66. Supposed to be another Ducati rider coming that I've never met. I'm so ready to start getting some riding in. Gonna stretch the Griso's legs a bit running with a couple of Ducs.

If you're listening Jay, lunch is at Butcher's BBQ in Wellston at about 12:30. We'll find a spot for ya at the table.

I checked and from where Jay lives to where you are eating is about 80 miles one way. A bit far for Jay I think.

Yesterday I left church and rode over to watch my friend's grandson race motocross at Sandia Motocross near Edgewood. Met my buddy Steve and other friends there. Very nice day and good weather. About 100 mile round trip!!

Saturday rode the Griso to a Motorcycle Museum, then a BBQ place, then just around the countryside. Did only about 80 miles.

Yesterday took the GS to meet a friend about one of his friends being interested in buying my bike. We swapped bikes for the 50 mile ride to his friends house. I rode Dwight's F6B. I had to fight falling asleep on it (You know the feeling when setting on a real comfy couch). They took turns riding my GS for a while. His friend really liked it but his wife said no. Told him he should get a new one, not used.

So my friend made me an offer and I accepted. I'm not really sure how I feel about letting my old GS go.

Had a couple of large ADV bikes, and really liked them both. But... keep thinking dropping down to the Tenere 700 would be a fun bike to play with, or another travel capable dual sport/ADV (Africa Twin?). Will still keep the FJR for touring duty, the FJ09 for Debra (and me to play on occasionally) and the Griso, because I'm a little bit off.  

The WR250x may be on the short list.

I would've liked to have joined you but we had stuff to do Saturday morning. I hopped on the 450L about noon and got in about 160 miles. I went back to the same area Sunday and got in about 130 more. Raj will be pleased to know that I will be posting up some water and bridge pictures soon.

Yes, just avoid Labor Day weekend (Springfield Mile) and the week after (Mustang Island trip).

Now a Regional/National meet is an excellent idea!! That would require quite a bit of investigation/planning/work/coordination on my part. None of that I am too excited about. I dislike that I was nominated and now the world is watching.     In fact, I am angry.    

But I can't argue with it!!                           Great idea!          

Some here may think since I am retired that I sit around all day and watch the grass grow. Not so. Actually I am busy most of the time but I will begin thinking seriously of how to do this in a way that would attract riders from far places and be a ride that all attending would have something to talk about for a long time.

Three of us left about noon Sunday and rode 200 miles up North to the Eagle Nest area. Just beautiful. They have been getting afternoon rain for weeks. We didn't get much and none at night. Everywhere was green. Nice change with these monsoons. Set up camp next to a running stream. Slept like a baby!! Got back yesterday, Monday, about 400 miles 'round trip. Went a different way back and got to ride a way I haven't been in some years.

Congrats!!  out of curiosity, could you hammock camp around there?   I've gotten very used to that in the mid-atlantic on motorcycle trips -- much less gear - but somewhat less flexible in some places -- IE not feasable on beach trips, places that don't have lots of trees.   I imagine that desert camping would also be a problem.

One of the guys brought his hammock but couldn't use it due to space of trees. He brought along his sleeping bag and blow up pad for inside his tent. It got down to high 30s there in the morning!!

Good to know -- If i ever get to tour out there -- I'll go with the tent....

If I go West out of town for a burger it is right at 100 miles 'round trip. Not too bad with open country and scenic hills and canyons. If I go East through town and up to the top of the mountain(10,000 feet) it is right at 100 miles!! The way I go depends on my mood!!

Two motorcycle camping buddies have planned an over night ride on Sunday afternoon up to the New Mexico and Colorado border area. This time to actually do some fishing. They are the ones that I posted about above with the pictures of our trip. Good guys. I'm on the fence due to other things.
