Vacation plans for this year?

Last year because of this Coronavirus garbage me and one of my life long best friends missed our yearly week or so motorcycle ride. Since he lives in Southern California we were going to meet in Phoenix and then go through Tombstone, AZ and on to Big Bend, TX!! Then over to San Antonio(he's never been there) and on to Okiehoma and back to my place in Albuquerque.

We been planning for months to do this ride this year. Don't know if we'll make Okiehoma though.     We're leaving the very end of April so it will be great weather!!

I have ideas, but no plans. It really depends on how the pandemic continues to affect things here in Europe. However, let's assume....  

If travel within Europe is free and clear, then Dan and I will take the motorcycles down to the Mediterranean near Montpellier in France, and then head west through the Pyrenees to northern Spain. Hopefully we can get two weeks to do this, so that we can do it right.


And one of these days, when travel to North America is safe again, we will fly to Vancouver and spend a couple of weeks riding around British Columbia.


Meanwhile, our "plans" are to stick to the roads in Switzerland. Which isn't a bad thing

Spring trip to Texas Hill Country. Base in Fredericksburg and do day rides for a week. This trip usually coincides with COTA MotoGP, but not this year.  

Summer trip to Colorado. Base 1/2 in Manitou Springs, 1/2 in Grand Junction? and do day rides for a week.

If Covid settles down, ride to the Springfield Mile race over Labor Day.

Do about 6 to 8 long weekend trips through Arkansas, riding on the Western side top to bottom, with some ventures up into SW Missouri and SE Oklahoma (HWY 90 East out of Noel, Talimena Drive and such).

Thanksgiving and Christmas trips to Port Aransas, Texas. Take the truck with bicycles and the WR250 for daily beach/exploration rides. (need another little dual sport for Debra).

You might say almost "normal year".

Already been on one socially distanced vacation -- hoping for several more --  outdoor activities are not hard to plan --- what I want to be able to do is visit family and vacation see my parents, brothers, nephews and nieces...

The only real vacation I have planned will be August.  Wife is retiring at end of July and we are just going to head out in the road and head toward New England and, if the border is open, up into the Eastern Canada.   I do have several smaller long weekend trip planned and will also do some spur of the moment trips when I feel like it.  Plan to do more moto-camping this year than I have in some time, but that’ll depend on the weather. It’s nice to be retired.

The Europeans tend to care for their employees' mental health and offer exceptionally generous holiday time. For me, I just negotiated a new work contract that included an extra week of vacation, so I'm pretty stoked about that

5 weeks officially.  But can take off a day or so when convenient.

It's more about getting the work done in my department than the time I am at the facility. I am on call 24/7 and do check/reply to emails and calls while on "vacation".

I was once riding on of the 3 sisters in the Texas Hill Country while on a conference call. Sena worked well enough, they had no idea I was riding.

May I humbly suggest that change is not necessarily a bad thing? But also acknowledge that often vacation time is tied into longevity and seniority.  

I left one company after several years of working 6 day weeks (and sometimes even 7 day weeks), took a pay cut, and started with a new company where I worked mon-fri (with a Saturday morning once a month). I made less money, and lost some vacation time, but picked up 50 more off days a year. One of the best decisions I ever made.

26 days (208 hour)a year, but it took a while to get uo to this amount. We can carry over up to 30 days.

Hoping to do a ride to the Dragon and from there, up to Ohio to visit friends / relatives.  And/or a trip up to Lake Placid for a few days of riding around in the Adirondacks. Spent a couple years up there back in the mid.late 80’s and it was a very nice place to ride. Might even trailer both bikes up so I can run some of the trails with the KLX.

I have a 7k mile trip of the SW US planned in late July/early August. This his year we will have 5 going. It’ll be the best yet.

Not planned for this year, but for 2023 (Dan's "Big Birthday"   )

Since I got to chose my tour for my big birthday (South Africa) he surprised me by choosing South America for his birthday tour. I have a lot of research to do, but early results are looking at a trip through Argentina and Chile.
