I had a little scare yesterday. No, not while riding. The two-week winter from hell ended this past weekend when it finally got above freezing. I was excited, anticipating riding soon. I rolled out my two primary bikes, checking the tires, chains, etc. Then I saw this:
Noooo! I just put this tire on. It has less than 700 miles on it. It turned out the screw was only about 1/4" long and was just stuck in the groove.

I suspect you put that in while sleep walking, in a deep dream about studding your tires to go ice riding.

I have seen others plug a rear tire and keep riding. I don’t think I would actually do so.

Center of the tread, good solid plug when done, good to go. Just treat the tire like it's 1 step lower than it's rating for speed and load.

Fortunate you don't have to worry about plugging or scrapping the tire, since it didn't puncture.
A couple years ago I put a back tire on my GS, and took it for a short test ride just to make sure everything was back together right. When I got back to the garage I found a 10" piece of wire (looked like a folded up piece of clothes hanger) stuck in the tire. I was pissed. Turns out it was only stick in a tread block sideways and didn't go deep. Relief!

Ran across this from Fort Nine. A nice break down of the current tire plugging technology. Grandpa wins again
