Be there or be square!

The same old town, the same old brewery, the same old motels, and most important, the same (but older) riders!

It will happen on the specified dates whether you attend or not, but why would you possibly want to miss out? You know that if you do show up, you'll have a great time and visit with old friends you haven't seen in years- and if you don't, those old friends will talk smack about you in your absence.

These dates are a bit earlier in the season than traditional, because we almost all have to ride I-5 to get there or back (or both) and we all know that I-5 around Memorial Day is hotter than a crack pipe and way less fun.

Yes, this means it's probably be wet in Fortuna. But it was probably going to be wet there any time of year.  I mean, seriously- it's a freaking RAIN FOREST.

So Redwoods, Lost Coast, Highway 36, and old riding buddies. Beer, good food, good riding, good people.

Just do it.

Hey Miles! You met Elver(one of my best friends who taught me how to ride when we were kids) on the January 1 ride we took with you and Lawn Dart. Me and Elver have been taking a week or more ride every year and we've been planning our yearly vacation on April 25 to early May.            Sad         Otherwise, I would come over there just for that!!!

Sheesh. How do you miss the obvious? *Change your vacation plans!*  It is as easy as that!

Seriously, I am jealous of those who will be able to attend

I wish I could! Elver's grandson, who I have known for years, joined the Marines and has gotten through boot camp. He is temporarily going to be in the Dallas/Ft Worth area at that time and so we have planned to ride through Texas Big Bend country and visit San Antonio on the way to Dallas.       Sad

Well, I guess weíll have to talk smack about you this year, Blue.

This is going to be the revival of an annual thing, though, so next year you can be there to defend yourself!

Very well, then. I will have burning ears on my trip in Texas. At least I will know where the burning is from.      Sad

Sounds like a plan, but a pretty brave one that early. Hell, I survived the snow the last time I went to one of these, I guess I can do it again. Iím going to try to make it.

I got caught in a snowstorm on highway 36 going to WCRM (I think it was 2010), watched the temperature drop to 30 degrees, almost hydroplaned into oncoming traffic, and vowed never to put myself in that position again.  The temperature was 44 on the west side and riding in that ďwarmĒ rain never felt so good...and that was on May 20 that year.

As much as I would like to spend four days riding in a down pour, (c'mon man, this is the WCRM and we all know what that means weather wise), I will not be able to attend this year.  I am recovering from a life changing surgical event and won't be ready to ride until at least June.

Maybe 2022.

OK, reasonable excuses are reasonable.

That said, plan on next year! I doubt we will ever return to the heyday of fifty bikes lined up in front of Dr Gil's house, but if we can get a consistent dozen or more I'd consider that a win.

I guess we should plan our revenge for 2022 then.    "The Ride on Customs".    Jasper, Banff, Glacier Nat'l Park, Libby Mt, Kaslo,   Cascade Hwy, Whistler/Lilloet.      Amazing Highways, and enough borders crossings to confuse all the feds.

All right. I've booked rooms for eight of us coming up from SoCal, Nevada and Tennessee at the Redwood Hotel.

I picked the Redwood simply because I'd stayed at the other two choices before and thought I'd give it a try.

At this point we're looking at an attendance of ten riders confirmed. Hopefully a few more will see that it's actually happening and will get motivated enough to ride their KTM Moto Guzzi Suzuki to the event!

I wish I could. I've posted that me and Elver(you remember him from our New Year's Day ride) have already planned a week vacation ride the other way.    Sad     I got me a "crotch rocket" now. You can't pick on me anymore!         Bigsmile

Surprisingly, the forecast looks pretty good. Aside from some fog and drizzle Thursday, should be mostly ok. I will be wandering about in N.Cal looking for roads I havenít ridden for the next couple of days. Presently in Fort Bragg, nothing new yet. Do we need to reserve space outside at the Eel River Brew Pub?

There were nine of us at dinner at the Eel River Brewery last night.

Good conversation, good beer and good food made for a good time.

It was great to see Knobnose and Andrew- it has been too long since the last time.

Iíve got to figure out how to post pics from my phone.

I hope everyone survived the long trip down 5 from Red Bluff to San Diego. I pretty much wore out my front tire on Saturday and had cords showing on the left side when we got to a construction stop after the top of 36. When the pace wicked way up fear eventually overcame ego and I slowed way down.
Got a new tire Monday morning in Redding at Redding All Terrain Tire. Good price on the tire and $50 labor including taking the wheel off was a deal for me. The owner has a fairly good selection of both street and dirt tires. When he opened he went with the bike shop custom closing Sunday and Monday but found Saturday to be very slow. Closing on Saturday and opening on Monday increased his business.
Nine people was a good turnout by recent standards and the weather was just about perfect with only a bit of drizzle on Saturday morning.

My front tire has a very wedge-shaped profile after all that, even despite the flat spot that 650 miles of I-5 put on it.

I knew this was going to be the end of the road for that set of Continentals, so I was fine as long as they got me home.

It was good seeing you again, KN. Iím glad you were able to attend the resurrection of an old tradition.

Good stuff. Restores some of the patina of this site.

Maybe a September gathering?
