There is something about British skies, an ever-changing palette of colors and shades. Even on a rainy day, the sun can suddenly breakout from beneath a canopy of clouds and set off an explosion of colors and rainbows. I don't think I've ever seen skies quite like them. Magical places.

Ooops...I see I mislabeled the Clan Donald castle ruins...should MacDonald but of course all good Scots (and Irish too) will already know that.

Yah...unfortunately, I only saw one race before an oil spill, and then, rain, and then a phoned in bomb threat put the kabosh on the program.
I still got a small taste of Irish road racing

We took our first ride of the season this weekend. We had not a drop of rain, but wore our rainsuits the whole time to fend off the cold!
We meandered around Kent and East Sussex before reaching our destination: Hove. The occasion was my mate's 50th on Saturday night. Sunday, we walked the seafront from Hove to Brighton Pier, heading into the Lanes for a meal. It was a beautiful, if chilly, weekend.
No motorcycle shots.

My wife (Sue) and I made the trip from Australia to see what Orson meant when he talked about the beautiful UK skies... Sue was in charge of camera duties from the pillion. Here are a few she snapped in Wales, around Snowdonia...
Shame about the traffic
Of course everybody told us it would always rain in the UK...
To be honest, we were blown away by how beautiful the UK was...
And Orson was right about the skies!
We've got more shots of Scotland and Ireland if anyone is interested.
Cheers

OK, you encouraged me!
So, here are a few more of the Peak District in England as we headed for Scotland:
Everywhere we went was very green - after a while we stated to understand why...
Not too many of the roads we ride in Oz look like this, unfortunately...
Occasionally, some funny blue stuff appeared in the sky - luckily it didn't hang around long enough to worry about...
Mmmm, bacon - I think I need some bacon...
After breakfast of bacon and freshly laid eggs, we were off to sample some local roads...
After a while, the weather returned to normal - but it was still a lovely place to ride!
All in all, we were very impressed with the area - we would love to come back and try out a few more roads when they're dry...
Next stop was the Lake District...
Cheers

No problem - I wouldn't mind a bit more of the roads and scenery in the UK either!
We left the Peak District and headed to the Lakes - not being too sure about the area as we had heard it was really touristy - and we did find that we had to share the roads - with sheep...
We headed into the more remote north-western parts of the Lakes and were rewarded with empty roads and beautiful vistas...
We even got a few more of Orson's "interesting" skies...
As well as quite a bit of that strange blue stuff!
Here's a picture of the bike we took over - it really impressed as a very capable two-up mount on some tiny and rough back roads - as well as when the riding pace became "spirited"
And then, on to Scotland - and some REALLY scenic roads...
Cheers
