"New" Garmin Colorado hand held GPS

I want a GPS unit that I can hike, motorbike and stick in the car.  A downside to this type is that there does not seem to be a speaker, but that would not really matter to me as I try to pay attention...
I like it's battery life which would make it good for hiking.  I know older units have greater battery life, but they also have fewer features.

That is a nice looking unit but a huge price IMHO.  I have an older Map60CS and love it. Great battery life btw. We use it to hike, geocache and I ride with it on my Triumph. Works great. The screen could be bigger but it does all I need including graph the barometer which helps in predicting weather.

I see them for around $100 on ebay. For me it is a compromise as I use it so much off the bike. If it was only for the bike and car, I would be a refurbished 2610 for the screen size.

Pricegrabber.com has the 300 Colorado for $400, the 400 for $460.
Which is a bit less than the MSRP.

Eh? I see them for around $200 on ebay (new).  I do not have any interest in used electronics for reliability reasons, especially from ebay.  Refurbished from a reputable source is another matter.

If the hiking features will be your primary reason for buying this unit it looks like it would be great for that. I have an older garmin etrex which was mainly designed for the same thing.

From what I can tell, the unit will only have the major insterstates and highways, which is not going to be enough if you plan on using it for driving and riding.  So plan on the extra expense of purchasing the maps to go along with th unit.

Me personally, I'd go with a C60cs as well for that usage.

Maps are extra.  From the reviews that I have so far read, the unit is really nice physically with a great controller but, as seems commonplace now, the early adopters are beta testers.  There are meant to be quite a few glitches that are not there on the 60csx, but Garmin is providing periodical firmware updates.
Personally I think this is bullshit.  I cannot stand the rush to market with a product that is not ready for primetime.  I'm going to borrow a buddy's gps for my Euro trip in July and let this thing get developed some more.
But it does look promising.  Maybe in a year
