I have two cats. One has adjusted well to having a small child in the house. The other has not. With another baby due soon, we've decided to find a new home for the kitty who doesn't like kids.

Her name is Jackie. She's all black, 8 years old. Strictly indoors, declawed and spayed. She's not the friendliest cat in history, but if she likes you she'll be your best buddy. She loves me, and sits on my lap quite a bit while I'm wasting time at STN. She's quiet, likes to sleep a lot, and also likes to rub against available legs.

If you're looking for a kitty, are in the Chicago-ish area, and aren't some sick bastard who hates cats, please let me know.

Thanks,
Jeff

Too bad you're in Chicago. My sixteen year old tort tabby is going to need a new pal when the boston terrier moves out of the house with his owners.

That's child-free buddy.  Razz (not knocking your kids or anything, childless just sounds so sad.  Embarassment)

Good luck, she's pretty.

Once they hit their teens, you may regret not looking for a good home for the kids! Bigsmile

Just speaking from personal experiance of course.

I am mentally a child, so does that disqualify me?

Well does it?

(cute cat, but both of mine now sleep with my daughter more than me!)

Looks a lot like my kitty. She doesn't need replacing yet though it's getting close.

I would say you still qualify, unless you bounce around constantly and act like a two year old.  Smile

Hmmm, my own cat is a spiteful bastard.  Maybe they'll like each other.

Obvious question, because I know jack about cats (except my own):

How do you think an 8 year old cat would adjust to a strange (smaller) place, a younger cat, and new people?  Hopefully, not by pissing everywhere, right?

Sounds like she'd fit right in with our neutered, 8 and 10 year old black cats.  But the declawed thing would be an issue.  They're currently in a on-again off-again battle for territory in the new house.  She wouldn't stand a chance.  The one that's winning right now is actually the one with no front claws (we got him that way from the shelter) but knows what to do with the back ones.

Declawed cats make the baby Jesus cry, ya know.

Yeah, I know. She's our youngest, and the last one that'll be declawed.

I think the place wouldn't be a big deal to adjust to. She's lived in 5 different places and never pissed there at first. The younger cat, I don't think would be an issue either. When we were in transition and staying with my parents, she was joined by my parents younger cat who is a big fat dumbass. New people... not sure; I guess it depends if she likes you or not.

You and Maggie planning on having kids anytime soon? If so, I'd say she's not for you. If you're not, and you keep the litterbox pretty clean, she might be alright. I really think it's the kids that she doesn't like.

Our place is small, so we HAVE to be good with the litterbox.  It stinks too bad any other way.  Lol
No plan for kids; my jobs are never steady at best, and she's still working towards tenure.

She would have to deal with the hellspawn that is Guinesstm...

Careful, she bites.  Fukcer is biting me right now, in fact.

Maggie's question is as follows:

How is the cat showing her displeasure with the kids?  Hostile, hissing, pissing, corporal cuddling?

Eight years old isn't old for a cat.  We don't want kids now and we're stable, but who knows in ten years?

Pees a bit, just generally is not happy. Not hostile, no hissing. I sent you a PM.

I'd be tempted.  I'd like a cat, but I do have minor allergies to some cats. The worst I've ever had is a pair of Siamese that caused my nose to start running the moment I entered their house, others don't bother me unless they're sitting on my head and those itchy eyes/nose go away soon after the cat gets a few feet away, and some don't seem to bother me at all.

Unfortunately, I'd also have to convince OSVS,
George,

and Chinchilla
http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o162/lewiseli/IMG_0795.jpg
that getting a cat would be a good idea.

Yeah- I figured a cat lover would like it.  Seriously- we have a cat at home.  Don't be too offended.  I didn't mean it as such.
Plus it's a free bump!   Bigsmile
