Hog heaven in tellico plains has some nice cabins, and the owners are great.

there are a couple of B&Bs in Tellico Plains. A couple of motorcycle resort type places as well I believe. Motel wise you will have to stay close to the freeway, Sweetwater and Madison have a few option if memory serves me correctly. Or you could stay at the Green Cove Motel and Trailer Park. Tis a bit out of the way and certainly not for everyone. One step above camping one might say. The missus and I stayed there. Mostly likely we will go back. The back deck looks out over the Tellico River Yankee Dog Hate to Sidetrack this post but: Is that a URAL ?? and how fast can you go on the highway with it?? Thanks!

The night before I rode the Cherohala I stayed at The Lodge in Fontana Village. Nice! I'm looking forward to going back someday.
Lodge is very nice at Fontana. Don't mess with the cabins >> Might as well just camp. Cabins are nasty. Fontana Village has a beautiful campground right on the river below the dam. Campground has bathrooms and showers. Beautiful place.

Yes it is a 2005 Gear Up. It will cruise along a 60-65 all day. I feel like I am pushing it when I go much faster. Although I did get it up to 80 the other day. Down hill and drafting behind a semi. I love the heck out of it. It is a hoot to ride. Really is meant for dirt roads and such. Really shines there. Yankee Dog

If you are going to be that close you might want to consider riding the Dragon and staying there. They are booked up for weekends but might have something available during the weekdays. It's just 21ish (I think) miles north on 129 on the Robbinsville NC side. You can ride the Cherry Cola and then the dragon a few times, crash for the night and do it all over again.

Watch out for the turn at mile marker 11 on the Cherohala Skyway. Nasty decreasing radius turn.

Yup, and you can't see around the turn either. Part of the mountain sticks out. Suches Georgia is not that far away (70 miles) and has two campgrounds that are motorcycle only.

It only holds when traveling from West to East (TN to NC). There is not a problem when traveling the other way. Yankee Dog

It's on our list. We had planned to ride there last summer for our annual vacation ride but job/employment changes messed it up. Same thing happened this year. It's not looking good for 2017 either.

I don't ever remember it being "bad" except on the NC part from Robbinsville to the actual start point, but that is in good shape too. Gettin' to be PUUUURRRRRfect riding weather up there too. Might have to take a spin up there on Sunday.

Just to clarify, the N.C. Side from the border to the starting point has been re-paved. The Tennessee side isn't in bad shape but, the N.C. Side is sublime
