This is a slightly modified version of Bluepoof's game, the boundries and number of pictures you can post are different. If you still don't understand how this game works, go read a few pages of the original Norcal thread:
https://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,2322.0.html
The Rules:
* Photos must be within 100 paved road miles of City Hall Downtown L.A.
* To start, someone posts a photo of their bike with a landmark, sign, etc. Clues can be given along with the photo.
* Individually (or as a group if you're so motivated), other participants ride to the same place and get a photo with THEIR bike at the same spot.
* The first person to "tag" the photo by posting their photo then posts up to two more photos for people to find. You only need to tag one photo to post your own. Untagged photos remain in play till tagged.
If no one is able to identify the tag, the poster can give progressively easier clues until someone finally says "AHA!" though
please don't post the location of the tag until after someone else has tagged it.
The scavenger hunt is part of the fun.

Well, I have some guesses, but that's all they are.
Mainly I'm posting to bump this up.

Another bump. Can't say where it is, but it looks a bit like the hairpin where a helped a gal pick up her Ducati last year (somewhere in the hills behind Angeles Crest Highway, toward Mt. Emma).

Well, I didn't take the pic, so this info may not be 100% accurate, but it's been suggested that the photo is somewhere in Ventura County. That narrows it down, eh?
I found a site that overlays google maps with county boundaries. Use zip code 93001.

Um, guys? Seems like there's a lot of armchair photo-tag in SoCal. The idea is to ride there and take a picture, not post where you think it is

Yeah, sorry, again. I'm lame.
Though I'll freely pull the drunk card. The start of this thread was clearly a late-night drunken post. You of clear morning minds should have caught that important fact.
Too late, it's already fixed.
Though there's a freebie for the (hiccup) starter of the SoCal thread. I may be heading up that way this weekend. Any competitors for the (non-satellite) tag of this location?

I made a slight modification to the rules to speed things up a bit by putting more tag targets into play at once.
* The first person to "tag" the photo by posting their photo then posts
up to two more photos
for people to find. You only need to tag one photo to post your own. Untagged photos remain in play till tagged.

Re: #1 Pic
Wow, I'm impressed!
. Though from a look at your semi-vague location in your profile, I'm thinking this is right in your backyard.
Just so there's a little heat on ya to go get the pic, I'll give a couple other clues for the others...
If I spin about 90 degrees right from this pic, you'd see the original pic I was gonna post which I decided was way to easy to start with. That, yet to be posted pic, contains my bike parked against a barbwire fence with a finger of a body below in the background . If I spin another 90 degrees right from that, there's some sort of structure on the lefthand side. This pic is near the crest of a low-level mountain pass.
M.Brane, if you tag this location, the real tag is with your bike against the wire fence with the bodyfinger in the background. Post yours and then I'll post mine
(kinda sounds dirty at this point, lol )
Re: #2 Pic
There's a hint photo below, you'll pass this point a mile or two before the tag. If you can read the sign it says Private road. Though, once you get up to where the tag-point is, you'll realize that that sign cannot possibly be true at this point (If you tag this, please snap a photo of the signage near the top that make my previous statement make sense).
In order to get the actual tag photo I rode apx. 10-20 feet past a closed gate and up to the top of little dirt ridge. If you're not up to that, a photo of your bike at the closed gate, plus a bikeless photo from the dirt ridge is acceptable
.
Also, since this particular road is an off the beaten path dead-end road I'll give one more hint as well. The valley below took the name of the first city of the valley, established in 1874.

I'm guessing it's a finger of a body of water...
So where can you look past a barbed wire fence to see a body of water?

Bike, fence, finger of body:
Eggsalant job!
Now post up to two more tags. New 'tag-targets' don't have to be fresh pics(though in order to 'tag'-a-'target', it must be a fresh photo). Part of the reason for opening the game up to two 'tag-targets' is so that the game doesn't stagnate in one region of the 200 mile range of the game (within 100 miles of L.A. downtown). If you got something near your backyard plus something on the southern or south/eastern/western (or just closer to center) part of the range that would be best to spread things out a bit...
Oh yeah, you showed yours, here's mine:
I'm pretty sure this is the exact location:

Aha!, leave it to a local to show a tourist the error of their ways. I was searching for the mysterious building I mentioned in my hint, now I can't believe I missed it!
Though for sure, that section of 150 is a rarely travelled route for those coming from the south. 33/Cerro Noroeste/perhaps Lockwood Valley road are mostly covering our crosshairs as we venture into the golden-lands...
Both of your new 'tag-targets' are great shots! I have an idea for your #2 shot, but #1 I'm scratching my head a bit. Seems kinda funny. I've probably blasted over that bridge a few times I'm guessing, but never stopped to see it as in the view of your pic...
Since we've got two new tags into play, I'll be hinting way more heavily towards my remaining untagged photo in my next post...

Re, my #2 yet untagged photo
Ok, I might as well post a direct map to the location at this point. If you can't find it with the following text you're just lame and/or have no google sense.
Here's the target...
"In order to get the actual tag photo I rode apx. 10-20 feet past a closed gate and up to the top of little dirt ridge. If you're not up to that, a photo of your bike at the closed gate, plus a bikeless photo from the dirt ridge is acceptable."
You will pass this along the way to the target...
You may want to send an email to Michael D. Antonovich, asking him why there's a private road sign en-route to the public park that bears his name...
Since I'm giving this away, and it's soooo easy to get around the closed gate, the bonus pic is from much higher altitude, ie, the last 180 turn before you reach the top. You'll know it when you reach it. And, hey, if you get caught, I'm pretty sure they'll just kick your ass outta there...

After a little more thought on your first photo-tag location, I'm pretty sure I know where it is. As a bit of synchronicity, the following piece of vid appeared on national tv somewhere within an hour of your posting. Not 100% sure it's the same bridge, but pretty sure...

Sure looks like the same one to me.
I figured that anybody who's done any serious exploring of the local twisties could find 'em. Of course getting there to take the pics is the fun part.
I know where your second tag is now, but won't be able to get there this weekend. That's a bit far still for having a 7-year-old on the back of the Ninja. He can't stay awake after about 15-20 miles.

Back from the dead.
Been a long time since I'd been up that road. The upper part hasn't gotten any better over the years that's for sure. The lower part where the road was repaved is a fun little spot now though.

Ok! I was looking for this after seeing Blue's Bay area tag. I see no new tag so I'll post an easy one now to get this going again. This one is real easy so get out there and tag it!
A hint should not be necessary as this one is so easy but.... Jay Leno is here quite a bit.

Ya know I was thinking about heading there for breakfast a while back, but couldn't get my lazy ass going early enough to beat the crowd. Been a while since I stopped in there. I'll have to make it a point now.
Nice S3!
BTW nobody's tagged my two shots yet. You should have been able to get one of those since it's just a little east of yours, and a perfect road for that Buell.
I'm suprised nobody's gotten the other one yet. You'd think at least
someone
who frequents the crest would take a little side-trip down the big T.

Hey, good job! Browns Cyn. extending from the end of De Soto in the SF Valley used to be a lot more fun when you could actually continue the ride all the way to the top. Good on you for hunting it down...
I've gotta admit, I was a little disappointed with how this thread progressed. It really seems like the southern portion of Region One is really weak in numbers compared to Bay Area and and/or Oregon/Washington contingent. So I was just gonna let it slide into oblivion... but since we picked up a whole 3 playa's for the whole SoCal region, I'll bump it once more.
P.S. to Biglar
Yeah, you really didn't need to give the Jay Leno hint on the first posting. It was truly easy as you said...
Here's a map where you can score both of M.Branes previously untagged tags. This ride won't suck...
(In case anyone else wants to play and is looking for a good day-ride (half-day if'n you start from the valley))

Love those map faces. LOL
That ride only gets the tag with the bridge though.
The other tag photo was taken from a turnout with a picnic table in the middle of a switchback about 3/4 of the way up the road looking back down at the way I just came up. I'm suprised you didn't tag it near the end of that last ride we were on together............

Been a while since I had breakfast at the Rock Store. Wasn't too crowded today. Dig the twin Aprillias behind my POS.
I stopped by my still untagged second photo location again today since I was in the neighborhood. There are actually 2 picnic tables there. I think I hit just about every good road in the Santa Monicas today. A couple in both directions.

Did you add the paved road miles part later? I could have sworn it was originally simply 100 mile radius.
I can put up another if you feel that one is disqualified due to distance. How's that for a hint?

Since the participation in this thread doesn't really match the Bay Area participation, I hesitate to bring this up, but.....
We almost need a Northern and Southern part to this thread.

Yeah I would be pretty clueless on any pics from your neck of the woods. Haven't been through there since I was a young punk. Most of my riding is north of I-10.

It was always via paved roads, but that's cool, leave it up. So it's within 100 miles as the bird flies ?

Yeah, how about widening the window. Maybe we can get more than three or four people playing. How's this for the new summertime boundries? Anything between Hollister and the Mexico border is fair game. You have to give a manditory hint by telling if it's closest to Hollister, Los Angeles, or San Diego.
Whoever down in the San Diego area to reply first gets a free target post without tagging one of the existing ones, just to get the ball rolling. It's not like this thread is too crowded to handle the traffic

Ok I'll give some more hints.
That pic was actually taken late last fall. The mustard would still be green up there this time of year. The picture is looking downhill. There is a sign at the end of the road not far from the pic location that looks like something you'd see in a campground or on a hiking trail that refers to something you might find on that peak in the background during the winter, and also refers to a large bird. I have been up, and down that road several times since the pic was taken. It rocks both directions. Never seen a LEO up there.

Ok, I went for a long ride today, and I believe I tagged this one. Only problem is I forgot my camera, so I got a low-res video grab instead. To prove my point of capture is correct I circled a few anomalies in the area that match the original higher-res photo. Left to right, 1.) An angled cross member on the fence line to the left. 2.) A center line paint goof. 3.) A couple of roadside bushes, first one smaller than the second.
This is Cerro Noroeste, maybe a mile or so from 166 and heading south. The hint that this was a downhill shot while technically true, was a bit of a trick hint since for the most part after leaving 166 you'll be mostly heading uphill for 20 miles or so.
P.S. , I shot vid of the whole length of the road from Pine mtn. club to 166, and from 166 to Pine mtn. club. today. Some sort of edited down version will probably be posted in the next few weeks.

We have a winner!
See I knew it wasn't that hard.
I got caught in that huge mess on the 5 today on the way to pick up the kid so I decided to take Lockwood/33/150 on the way back.
It just ain't quite as much fun in the F150, but the scenery is better than sitting in 5MPH traffic on the slab.

Damn, if I could just make out what it says on that Adopt-A-Highway sign I could pin it down to the mile marker at work.

Yeah, that's part of the point of this thread, isn't it?
Anyways, I've got another couple shots from the same road if it help for hints. Though I'm not gonna post 'em till someone asks, just incase someone else already knows exactly where it is...

I say revive away! If you know where it is, tag it and throw another up. In the bayarea thread it's been decided that a landmark is nicer than a picture of a random road/hillside.

I'm not sure of the details exactly, but Larry crashed it last year. I loved that bike- it was so loud it rattled fillings out of teeth, and the airbrush paint job was amazing. It will be missed.

I got it!
With the Connie...
and a nice wide shot...
and the locale...

Ok, so this is a local "landmark"... First the more cryptic picture... then hints and another more revealing pic if need be...
The water tank on the left says... um... "WATER". And the yellow sign in the middle says "Control Point Ahead".

I think I know where GTSRider's untagged pic is from too, but still need a chance to confirm.

Not as cool as you might think, but I did come to the realization one day when I was up there that everyone I saw was either bald or balding. Real glad I didn't go there every day.
There's some "interesting" stuff up there.

Excellent. I wasn't going to get a photo of that spot until the next Fast 400, and who knows when that would be.
Now you have tagged, you need to post up a new one! (Hopefully somewhere farther south so us LoSoCal types can play)
