With the current economy and all the talk about it on this board. Random posts about members being unemployed, and having difficulty finding work. And myself being one of those unfortunate people being on unemployment. I'm getting curious as to how long unemployed people have been without employment.

I'll start.
Lost my job the last week of August 2008. In October I managed to get a temporary 6-month contract position. But it only lasted 3-months.
So I've been without permanent employment for 12 months; and without ANY employment for 7-months.

i lost my job of eighteen years in february. i was on unemployment for six months, managed to stay caught up on bills, but couldn't find anything in my field. i started my own business in july but i am now making less than i was when i was drawing unemployment. i'm not sure how much longer i can last. i'm starting to get behind on bills. creditors are not accomodating.

I voted for the wife-her company went bankrupt in December, she's been out since.  HOWEVER, she starts her new job tomorrow morning.  She applied to about 25 companies, got interviews at about 18, 2nd interviews at a dozen, before finally nailing one down.  Moral of this story-keep hittin em, someday someone else will come in second.

I voted 1 to 3 because it's been just over a month since my grad school funding was cut.  Still looking for a decent part time job that doesn't involve minimum wage or killing puppies and kittens.

I was lucky enough to find a better paying job than the one I lost after 9 months of retirement.

Best of luck to those of you looking. I know it is not any fun. Smile

I was recalled after 3 months out.  A half dozen more were called back this week.
I don't know what will happen to the one that showed up for his physical completely smooth.  He shaved everything except his butt crack, which he waxed.  Eyebrows, toes, every single hair was gone.
We've still got 35-40 people laid off.  My gut tells me some will never come back.  The best engineer we had found a job in another state while he was laid off.
My 401k has been going up quickly this year, 64% improvement last time I checked.  The economy is starting to turn around.
