Here is the official plan for ESTN 2011:

Location:
Microtel Inn and Suites Marietta
506 Pike Street
Marietta, OH 45750 US
Phone: 740-373-7373
Fax:740-373-3609
http://www.microtel.com

Lodging Rate: $64/night plus tax for a room with two queen beds (double occupancy) using the "Best Available" rate and the "Stay 2 -Save 20%" promotion. Total for 2 nights is $144.64

Dates: Friday Sept 16 through Sunday Sept 18

NOTE: We do NOT have a block of rooms reserved. BOOK YOUR ROOMS NOW TO LOCK IN A SPOT. You can always cancel up to the day before.

I'm not kidding about reserving rooms NOW. Many motorcycle groups use Marietta as a home base. The Microtel is the top-rated hotel in Marietta and it's very affordable. IT'S  GOING TO SELL OUT.

The Super 8 across the highway is also available for cheap and the Hampton Inn is next door to the Microtel for about double the money.

More info on routes, things to see/do, etc, etc to come.

Who's Attending!

I just made my reservation using the Microtel web site. My total for the two nights is $144.64. I have until 4pm on Thursday Sept 15 (the day before the rally) to cancel.

I STRONGLY recommend that if you're even thinking about attending ESTN that you book a room NOW (yes, right now). You can always cancel later if things don't work out.

Be careful looking for cheap rooms. There is a Days Inn in Williamstown [just across the river] from the Microtel and it really sucks. At least I don't have to worry about a room as I live 4 miles from the Microtel.

Based on work travel already booked the following Monday for Lexington, KY and the fact I'm headed to Oregon the week after, I doubt I can make this year's ESTN.   Sad

Oh come on now Doug. This is practically in your backyard. You should at least be able to make a day trip out of it and join us for saturday night dinner.  Bigok

I have high hopes to be in.  First group event of any kind on any bike.  This should be good.  I have been on group rides for fund-raisers but this is my first outing with this group.  I look forward to discussing this with my riding partner.

The group rides at STN events tend to be pretty informal and small (10 - 12 riders per group max). Sometimes people offer to lead rides. If so, contact the leader if the route/ride seems interesting. You can find out about things like pace, time between breaks, etc. Other times groups informally form during the parking lot BS/beer session the night before or first thing in the morning.

We don't do rolling roadblock parade type group rides. Think single file twisty strafing at your own pace and re-grouping at road changes. Having groups get spread out over several miles due to different paces and/or traffic is normal and expected. It's no big deal to re-group at road changes, but those can be 10, 20, or 30 miles apart.

That type of informal ride rules sounds very good to me.  Some of the bigger rides I have been on were populated with control freaks and speed junkies that are just an accident looking for a place to happen so I have avoided them ever since.  I like to just ride my ride and take it easy most of the time.

The Pace is hosting a ride from Northern Delaware down to Barber Motorsports starting that weekend (18th - 24th). But... maybe... maybe... I can head down to ESTN Saturday morning (the 17th), and meet up with the rest of the ride down there. Maybe. We'll see. Doubtful that I can, but it's worth exploring the option.  Thumbsup

I'm thinking of doing the same.

I'd be doin good if I was only 20 or 30 miles behind Garry at the first break.

Reservation made just the same.  I'm really looking forward to exploring SE Ohio.

Hopefully work won't screw my plans up this year.

Sometimes people offer to lead rides.

Or are volunteered.  I planned on a very small group at the national last year and had 10 people waiting on me when I came out to get on my bike.  Crazy
