Interesting what you find exploring back roads:

Today I braved the winter weather ( a frigid 52 F.   Lol) for a quick ride after lunch.

Just to show that New Jersey isn't exclusively home to swamps and chemical factories:

http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr338/tbone048/New%20Years%20Day%202012/2012-01-01134456.jpg

I stopped at a historic marker a few miles from home, an old farm house and roadside stand:

http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr338/tbone048/New%20Years%20Day%202012/2012-01-01135839.jpg
http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr338/tbone048/New%20Years%20Day%202012/2012-01-01135910.jpg

This is the tiny airport down the road from my house:

http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr338/tbone048/New%20Years%20Day%202012/2012-01-01141829.jpg

They added helicopter rides and pilot training last year.

http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr338/tbone048/New%20Years%20Day%202012/2012-01-01141849.jpg

It was a great ride, I wish it could have been longer but I wanted to get home and wash the bike and cars before the sun started going away. I wish the weather could stay like this for a while longer!

Except for the one or two days that the roads are clear and relatively safe, same here.

I rode to Worcester tonight, just got home. No pics though. It was ...... invigorating.

Thanks! I may have to visit it on some future ride.

I found it via Google Maps. I'm still trying to figure out how those trains got there (assuming they weren't trucked in, which is boring). I can see abandoned lines in the area, but none of them seem to go right to that location. Maybe there was a temporary spur. I may have to do more Googling to see if I can learn more.

No riding -- snow is on its way. Maybe this weekend.

I tried that once when I first got my bike. I woke up in an ambulance 30 minutes later.

Tried WHAT once?

Riding when the roads looked clear and safe in the winter. Was 40* when I went into work and about 25* when I left. Made it 30 feet before the back end came out from under me

I am trusting that the cold weather won't produce any snow today. I think it was 26 when I left for work. Should be a tad colder by the time I leave.

Gerbings heated gloves work so well that I didn't even have to plug them in and my fingers were warm  Inlove

Which ones do you have? Even my Classics get a bit cold at 25° without plugging in.

Actually today is the first day I've caged it since April. This was a record riding season for me non-stop. I've never ridden right through New Years before. It was 17° this AM when I got up and lake effect snow showers predicted for today and tonight.

There were TONS of accidents and highway shutdowns last night. I'll cage it again tomorrow as it's supposed to be 9° tomorrow morning, but shooting back
up into the 40's Thursday-Friday........and supposedly above average temps next week too!!!

Ouch.

I've logged several thousand miles in sub-freezing weather, including a trip from DC to upstate NY. I'm also very careful about the sorts of days I choose, and the weather conditions besides for the temperature.

Today will not be one of those days.

Cold this am, 20's, but the wind sucked.   As others have said, proper gear can get you through the cold, but i hate riding in 30+ mph gusts.   Mad2
