A dictator needs to step up.

This has proven quite effective here in Region 6.

The place we stayed last time in Gunnison was awsome.   Riding the Black Canyon was a highlight of the trip.

This sounds really good.  At least a starting point.  I presume that the details from last year are available somewhere here from a thread that's left over.  Even if no body gets things organized any better, we could simply use all that information for this year...I can't commit because of an issue at home but this is a good starting point in my un-experienced opinion.

Winter Park no good. Too high. Might still be snow and some people will suffer from altitude sickness. Lodging is likely more expensive then Gunnison, Montrose, Custer, etc.

Gunnison ~ 8000'

Winter Park ~ 9000'
- less than 10 miles from Berthound pass.
- close to Rocky Mountain National Park.
- peak to peak highway

aside from altitude it steers us away from an area we've literally ridden to death.

I'll be riding about 2,000 miles just to get there, so the local roads don't mean that much to me.
Having said that, if it ends up somebody takes the reigns and makes it happen at Winter Park, I'll still likely show up.

So what about lodging, food, and most important, beer?
Are these things within walking distance?

Edit:
A quick check reveals the only hotel under $130 a night is booked for those days.

I just called  http://alpineredlodge.com/ at Red Lodge. This might be an excellent option. Nice place and Trish was super friendly and they are motorcycle friendly. The rates are as follows:
Single room $105 a night
Double $115 a night
Camping on site $35 for a two person tent
All rates include a FULL HOT BREAKFAST each morning.
There is an area where we can have BBQ, cook our own food, or they also cater everything form hot dogs and hamburgers to full steak dinners.
There is a motorcycle wash area with soap, water and towels.
Walking distance to http://redlodgeales.com/
And best of all, you get to ride Bear Tooth Hwy!

Sounds good to me. If we want to do this, I'll set up the hotel and reservations. We'll have to decide about dinner and t-shirts. If somebody wants to take that on, that would be awesome. I don't do artsy stuff.

Gunnison Inn and I think it was a days inn right next door.

We stayed at the Day's right next door, they treated us very nicely  (big rooms, decent price).

Doubt I'm going to have time off in June this year, so I hope you all have fun.
