Barely three corners in and what stood out to me - and continued to stand out throughout the day - was the engine. Not how much power it makes - although it does make a lot - but how it delivers its power..

It's weird.  When I was younger and broke, I wouldn't think twice about financing a bike.  That's how I bought a Goldwing 1800.
But now that I can afford to pay cash, I think all these bikes are just too expensive for a toy...

I guess I just have a whole lot more cash where I wouldn't matter dropping $20K + on a ride.

It is a wonderful bike though.

I'm tall 6'3" and ride a multistrada, I didn't need to read this...........must fight lust, must fight lust, must fight lust.

Again, all the hype leading up to the Panigale's launch left me thinking it was going to be more extreme than the 1198 the but riding position is really comfortable. You feel like you're sat in the bike, not on it. The reach to the footpegs is roomy and that's not something I'd have ever said about a Ducati sportsbike (just look at the picture on the right for proof). The bars are wide and are set in a more open position but Ducati's design makes them look light on switchgear, further enhancing the race-bike feel. That extra room makes all the difference and the riding position feels natural, definitely not extreme. I daresay that, although the Panigale looks smaller than the 1198SP, it would suit taller riders better than most superbikes.

 Lol

37 lbs lighter than a BMW S1000RR.

Hayzoos H, the Japanese superbikes really have been left in the dust by the Euros.  Honda with it's reskinned 2012CBR , same with the 2012 GSXR etc

On top of that, the price gap between the big 4 and Euro bikes have narrowed a bit.  Where the big 4's used to be a bargain, their price today makes me think twice.

oh great, now Kevin Ashe is specifically stating that at 6"3" he fits it..............must fight lust, must fight lust......

The figures and Ducati precedent fuel expectations of a radical, wrist-heavy stance, instead the 1199 Panigale is roomy with 10mm higher bars, further back and set wider and with the seat more forward. I’m 6’3” (1.91m) and I fit fine, yet the reach to the ground isn’t too daunting for those of more compact stature.

Honestly can't say. I bought the S1000RR in December when it was offered to me for dealer wholesale. The plan was to ride it and the CBR in the spring and decide which one I wanted to keep. The BMW was so inexpensive there was no way for me to lose money on it.

A buddy of mine who is a sales manager at a local multiline dealer offered me a deal on the Duc, and then worked out a deal on the trade ins with a nice premium on the BMW. Factor in the tax savings from doing trade ins, and I signed.

Hoping I have it broken and set up so I can bring it to TWiSTAR https://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,69796.0.html in May.

Interestingly, some testers have bemoaned the relative lack of low end grunt but this guy says it is better because it's less prone to inadvertent wheelies out of slow corners than the 1198. And of course it has more top end as well, so I guess that makes it a win-win  situation! Bigok

I hate you. Smile (In the best possible way)

I want to have a need for this, and the money. Luckily, I don't. Quite. I don't.
