Part of the motor operator course is dumping the bike for a foot pursuit.


There are a few reasons to let the bike go (to avoid a car backing into you, for cover in a shootout, etc).  It is a piece of police equipment and not a personal bike.  Letting a bike fall is very counter intuitive and not easy until you've trained yourself to do it.

I thought SOP for creating cover in a shootout was to pop a wheelie while shooting back at the same time.   Lol
