BIKE LONGEVITY POLL #1: Most number of miles you put on a bike?

I'm at roughly 54,000 miles on my '07 Norge which was purchased new in '09.  This is the most I've ever put on a bike I've ridden, and there have been a few since 1964.  I suspect the Norge will go well beyond the 100K point as I love this bike.

When I get the Goldwing, or equivalent, for 2-up freeway mileage eater, the mileage accumulation rate on the Norge will probably go down somewhat, but he will still be my daily driver.

I put 90k miles on my '85 K100RS, but I would never call that bike reliable. Desperation and a good toolbox is what kept that bike running, and it was like the farmer's axe when I got rid of it.

God what a piece of shit.

Sold the trusty 2005 FJR1300 last week at 69,962 miles. I'll call it 70K!

I had a Y2K Kawi Concours that had 184k on it when it was murdered by a Ford Ranger in Oct 2013.  I bought it in Oct 2001 with 8900 on it.  Great bike and I was way disappointed to not get it to 200k.  Then there was the 2001 SV650 that I sold with 104K.  It still ran as great as when I bought it with 12k.  Both great bikes.  Now up to 58k on a 2006 Concours.

Ha. When I voted on this, I voted 20K-30K. Now, I've got 73K+ on my current bike.  

I would have more but I got a dual-sport in January, 2014 and I've been riding it a lot too.

I don't think I will ever catch up with MXVet's '04 FJR. I think he has over 300K now...

I think he's the reigning high mileage birthday boy. The Gray Ghost guy in Ohio lunched his engine at 350K approx.

Water cooled engines, advancement in technology, suspension, much better highways, radial tubeless tires.
Chains are 0,X-ringed last a long time.  
Long mileage requires lots of seat time.
FZ1 Girl has put 230,000 miles on her 2001 FZ1.  She is a school teacher, not married, and rides every summer.
I congratulate those who are content with 1 or 2 motorcycles, you saved money.
Not me, I've owned 13 motorcycles and 40 cars in 48 years.  I'm a "Kid in a Candy store".
I was hoping the FJ09 would have had a shaft like mine 78 XS750 triple.
Keep an eye on the suspension fluid, linkage and steering head bearings.

Service costs and especially parts availability was the reason I parted with the Yamaha. The Kawi however runs like new, I know this as I'm the original owner and I ride everyday it's not snowing and would take it anywhere with no worries

133,000 miles on my 98 VFR800. One valve adjustment at 120k. Running strong when I sold it. Used no oil between 4-6k mile oil changes. I used to be VFRCapt.Bob. Finally sold it and bought the Triumph STR and FZ1. I may buy another VFR when the time is right.

I'm at 285,000 Km's on my 2003 FJR. All mine except the first 15,000 or so. I'm just in the middle of replacing a final drive seal but it's been remarkably reliable with no major issues. I'll keep riding it until I hit 300,000 later this Fall and then may put it in the proverbial barn.

I put 146,000 Km's on my 2000 Concours but that only took 5 years. Must be slowing down.

I have seen them fail, but my lawnmower is still going strong.

Actually, I don't see that as a measure of reliability.  They are easier to replace than the oil.

I had a 1984 Goldwing GL1200 - one with the infamous failure prone stators. And fail it did. Lucky ( and I use that term loosely in this context ), it failed only 3 days ride from Vancouver on my way home from Newfoundland. Could have been much worse. But even back in 1998 it was about a $1,000 repair bill because it was located inside the back end of the engine IIRC and a great deal of disassembly was required to replace it.

Oh yeah, Honda stators. I have another one sitting here waiting to go in...pull the engine, split the case. Probably not worth it! Don't tell me about "Honda reliability ". That is an oxymoron.

A couple of years ago, the starter on my 2003 FJR starting acting up; mostly turning over very slowly. I did a bit of Googling and found that there can be an issue with an oil seal giving out and oil getting inside the starter and gumming things up. That's exactly what happened to mine. But, did Yamaha put the starter in some nice easy place to get at ? NOOoo, of course not. The whole throttle body has to come out first along gawd knows what else. That was a several hundred dollar job by the local dealer. A $2 seal ends up costing several $Hundred.

Given the miles on my FJR, on average it has been wonderfully reliable but the designers often are the cause of unnecessarily high repair costs.
