What do you know about the iPhone 5, iOS6, iPad Mini, and whatever other iWear that Apple will be unleashing tomorrow?  Will the iPhone 5 be significantly different than the 4S, other than the dock connector?  I have heard a couple articles say that they are expected to sell 6-10 million in the first weeks and that it will be the "best selling smartphone of all time", but I can't figure out why they anticipate huge sales (other than normal fanboyism).  It seems that while iOS6 is bringing a lot of changes, that the new iPhone seems to be just slightly different than the last one in terms of dimensions and battery life.  I don't follow many tech news outlets, so for those that do - what's the scoop?

I heard that it will not only track your scheduled maintenance, in some settings (Ducati edition for example), it can actually adjust the valves for you.

Actually, I heard it had built in fingerprint identification (like old XP laptops  Lol)  I think Apple has the best "Hype Builder" app of any company.

I've put zero thought into it, honestly, in terms of "what I want in my next iPhone". I'm listening to all the buzz on TWiT and other twit-network shows, GDGT's take on things, etc.

I don't know that I've formed any firm opinions myself yet...

I think they're overdue to offer 4G/LTE (just to keep up with all the android phones offering it, even if "4G" is the worst misnomer ever). But LTE is a battery hog, and Apple really likes their sleek form factor.

If they want to buff the camera, they can skip adding more pixels, and just give a zoom lens like some of the other phones from Samsung and HTC.

I think they're going to do a smaller iPad, because the Nexus 7 is WELL regarded for its size first, and the Android stuff second. The size if really winning people, and Apple would be dumb to ignore that. Apple is many things; dumb ain't one of them.

NFC is a wasted discussion, IMO. It's an answer to a question no one is really asking.

That's Apple-Thought for you - let's change the connector, but keep it proprietary instead of using a damn Micro-USB like every other device.   Angry3

I'm not crazy about the headphone jack at the bottom, either.

There's a decent-enough reason for it; when connected to power *and* output, it's more likely to sit somewhere nicely. For instance, I often use my ear buds in the car and hooking it up to power, it makes it a real bitch to just set the phone in a cubby somewhere in the car.  Thumbsdown

It's *A* reason, anyway. Maybe not *THE* reason. Shrug

I know nothing about the iPhone 5, other than my wife will probably get in in a few weeks once hype dies down, and the fact that power and earbuds from the same side is simply logical.

my employer paid for my iphone 4s, its good but not great. not that I care.
we bought an ipad a few years ago, no problems with it and its not obsolete
my 2nd generation ipod still works, it just has to be plugged in almost all the time now.

Pick up the economy with huge sales? How??? or, why?
I won't be helping.

I don't think the headphone placement at the bottom is that logical.  For instance, if you use a docking station, then you can't jack in your headphones at the same time.  Or if you have a battery pack (or other accessory) to plug into the bottom, it may block access.   Also if you have an iphone jogging arm band like me, you'd have to put the phone in upside-down in order to have the jack at the top.

I have a 3GS and since Apple only supports the phones for 3 versions, it's time for a change.

Funny, the thing I took away from that video is that if that truly is an iPhone 5, it didn't boot any faster than an iPhone 4.  Lol

I'll get the 5 when the 5s is released. That way the fan boys will have the bugs worked out.

Well the 5 will probably be like the 4, a 3gs in a 4 case. The real 5 will be the 5S.  Lol

I don't like the fact that they changed the data/power connector from the familiar Apple type they've been using since for-ever.

So nothing in the world that plugs into an earlier Iphone or Ipod will interface.  Thumbsdown Thumbsdown Thumbsdown

That is a major asshole move on their part but they obviously ran into a limitation with the old connector?

It gives you the chance to buy a $40 connector adapter that probably costs $1.50 to make.  Yay Apple.
